florian.photo2026-10-27Took the above photos during a quick run to the pharmacy. I’m already dreading the dark months ahead. Meh… * * * On a more positive note: Lots of work went into this blog today. I added more slash pages. There is now [/blogroll](/blogroll) and [/uses](/uses), both are still works in progress. I updated the [Photo Stats Kirby plugin](https://github.com/florianziegler/kirby-photo-stats) so that the stats now calculate the focal lengths for medium format cameras correctly. Caching across the site should also be much improved and users of a Chromium-based browser should see a cross-fade transition when navigating between posts.

florian.photo2026-10-24Dedicated Photography Timeβ„’ with [my dad](https://peterziegler.net/). πŸ™Œ Usually when my parents visit the weather is bad, so I somehow seldom get with my dad to go out to photograph. Today though, it was quite nice, so we drove to Landschaftspark Nord in Duisburg. We also switched cameras for the day, because my dad wanted to once and for all rule out a Leica M body for himself, _hoping_ he would not be able to produce sharp images. He is sitting across from me now, looking through his photographs from today, and he hasn't found any out-of-focus images yet, so I guess he's looking to buy an M now! Anyway, I used his GFX100S with a 45-100 mm lens to take the above images. The camera is a beast. The image quality and resolution is quite stunning, but I am very glad I don't usually have to lug around such heavy equipment. πŸ™‚

(I only get the number of likes per post, I have no idea _who_ likes a post.) The likes were saved in a cookie in the user's browser, so if you have ever liked a post, you should have seen the popup, which allows you to export those likes as a bookmark file. florian.photo2026-10-19Second post about [yesterday](/2026-10-18)'s Dedicated Photography Time with [Daniel](https://danielpietzsch.com/). The photos above are from our visit to [Halde Norddeutschland](https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halde_Norddeutschland). 359 steps to get up there. (I need some cardio training in my life.) It was pretty windy at the top. Winter is coming. Still enjoyed myself tremendously.

florian.photo2026-10-18Dedicated Photography Time with [Daniel](https://danielpietzsch.com/)! πŸ™Œ We visited two Halden today, so I will split the photos into two posts. This first one from [Halde Rheinpreußen](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halde_Rheinpreu%C3%9Fen). No rain, just a very dark and moody sky, exactly how I like it – at least when it comes to my photography. Glad I decided to bring my long lens – the view from both locations was quite spectacular.

florian.photo2026-10-17Had a proper fire brigade call-out on our street today. The smoke alarm went off two houses down and one of the neighbors made the call. No fire after all and we are not sure what exactly happened, but the fact that they arrived with four vehicles only three minutes after the call went out is somewhat reassuring. * * * In other news, starting today, this here blog has a proper [about](/about) page. I wanted to make it a little more self-contained instead of linking out to [the other website](https://florianziegler.com/), which is rarely ever updated.

florian.photo2026-10-14Another evening walk, forcing myself to find something to photograph. I have noticed that I keep looking _up_ a lot. Not sure why. Probably the light in the late afternoon hitting the buildings and trees. Anyway, I am quite happy with today's images. * * * I really enjoy being on [Mastodon](https://mastodon.social/@florianziegler) these days. florian.photo2026-10-13Photo from yesterday, because I didn't get anything I liked today. * * * I finally published the blog post I have had in my drafts folder for weeks now, about [how I imported my shared albums from iCloud into Immich, without creating 30,000 duplicates](https://florianziegler.com/journal/importing-icloud-shared-albums-into-immich).

I wrote a blog post about how I moved my photo library from iCloud onto a self-hosted #Immich instance. Importing the (shared) albums didn't go as smoothly as the rest (which was iCloud's fault, not Immich’s πŸ™‚): florianziegler.com/journal/impo... #TechIndependence

florian.photo2026-10-12Took another color image from almost the exact same position ([a couple of steps to the right](/2026-03-05), actually) in early 2026. This time, the colors inside the building looked interesting, but didn't work very well on their own. Hence the idea of using a long exposure to get some more movement/lights in the foreground. It took a couple of minutes until I had cars crossing in front of me. The result is ok, but I am more happy about the fact that I headed out with the intention of making an image and succeeded! πŸ™‚

florian.photo2026-10-10Went to Cologne today to attend Fujikina. Listened to a very interesting talk by [Stefan Finger](https://www.stefan-finger.de/) about how he approaches projects. Had a friendly conversation at the Cewe booth and might finally try another printing service. Saw amazing photographs by [Nina Papiorek](https://ninapapiorek.art/) from her visit to Chongqing (重庆, ChΓ³ngqΓ¬ng), a fascinating Chinese mega city. Really, do yourself a favor and [take a look](https://ninapapiorek.art/galleries/chongqing/)! A side note on that: Her pronunciation of the name was way off β€” and it came up every couple of sentences. I have to add that I studied Chinese for a few years and although I've forgotten pretty much everything, I still cringe when the pronunciation is butchered like that. πŸ™ˆ That is obviously totally on me. I was almost ready to correct her after the talk, but I certainly didn't want to be _that_ guy. Then again, maybe it would have been helpful? Then again, if she really wanted to know, it's one web search away. I digress…

florian.photo2026-10-03Back at [Gruga](/collection/gruga) for some dedicated photography time. Little did I know that it was absolutely packed! The nice weather plus the current "Essen erntet" festival seems to have drawn A LOT of people. Ventured off the beaten path a bit to find some calm. Earphones helped as well. I'd call this two hours well spent.

florian.photo2026-10-01I made a really nice image of my daughter earlier. It perfectly captures her stance towards homework: pure disdain, with a side of resignation. (Poor thing.) But since I'm not comfortable sharing too many images that feature my children as the main subject, you get popcorn instead. (If you want to see the image, you have to come by for a visit and have a look at the next year's book, which will 100% feature this image.)

florian.photo2026-09-30It's late and suddenly I realize: I need to post an image! Did I take any today? I seriously forget sometimes. Turns out I did β€” a couple from waiting for the kids after school. The graffiti practice wall again. Meh… I don't like the images, but do I want to find something at home to photograph, right now? No. So, the above image it is. A successful day in general. Photographically, not at all.

florian.photo2026-09-26Zero wind at the kite festival. Such a pity. All those colorful contraptions – grounded. Bought two kites for the girls. (Probably way overpriced, but who's checking Amazon? I won't dare…) I find [the second image](#slide-2) very amusing. The guy in [the fifth image](#slide-5) was the only one who managed to fly his – extremely lightweight – kite, but only for a little while. * * * I enjoyed being out with the family and getting some photography time in and I learned something about gliders – the location is usually their airstrip.

florian.photo2026-09-18We came past the graffiti practice wall again. Briefly talked to the guy working on a piece there and found out that, with ~4.50 € per spray can, this is quite an expensive hobby/way to express yourself creatively. (He needs at least 3-4 cans for a wall of this size.) That is almost as expensive as film photography! πŸ˜‚

florian.photo2026-09-14This is my wife's _Gedankenkiste_ (German for _box of thoughts_). It was one of my first presents to her (the box with the stenciled title) as a container for her diaries. It currently contains almost 28 years of handwritten diaries. She has tried many formats and notebooks over the years and it is a proper ritual every time a new one is prepared and the current one is archived. I'll probably have to get her another box soon.

florian.photo2026-09-13It rained almost the whole day. There was a break in the late afternoon, which I used to head out with my camera. My headphones on with some music playing, I felt kinda inspired. (Although I recently heard someone say, that there is no such thing as inspiration and that you should just go out and _play_.) I walked these same streets hundreds – if not thousands – of times, but different things catch my eye every time – well at least when I am in _photography mode_. If my mind is occupied with other things, such as family or work, I don't _see_ immediately and it takes some time to get into it. That's why it is more difficult to get photos I like during the week. Today though, I took the first image literally five seconds after I left the house.
