Livestock production is a huge contributor to deforestation and environmental destruction around the world. We're at #COP17 this week, advocating for stronger commitments to stop the subsidies and financial institutions supporting the livestock industry.

Indonesia has faced severe wildfires and biodiversity loss due to industrial activity. Friends of the Earth staff and partners are at #COP17 this week to pressure banks to stop financing environmental destruction and governments to be more ambitious on climate action.

Our staff are at #COP17 Convention on Biological Diversity this week, where world governments are discussing their progress (or lack thereof) on biodiversity targets We're here to pressure governments to be more ambitious on climate action and to back their words with action.

Harmful permit decisions made by the Trump administration could become nearly impossible to reverse. Our communities deserve a say in what happens to our land, water, and wildlife. We can’t let corporate polluters sidestep accountability.

States, Tribes, and local communities could have fewer tools to protect drinking water and waterways from pipelines and other energy projects. Threatened and endangered species could lose critical protections, putting rare wildlife and habitats at risk.

Billionaires hoard. We pay. 👇 California billionaires have more than doubled their wealth in 3 years. Prop 40 asks them to pay a one-time 5% tax for health care, schools and food assistance. 🗳️ Vote YES on 40 and NO on 41 & 42.

There's a better use for these public dollars: investing in proven conservation, supporting farmers who are transitioning away from factory farming, and increasing monitoring to ensure factory farms are following environmental regulations.

A simple change to school lunches can make a big difference for students and the planet. During New York Climate Week, we celebrated the results of a NYC school pilot that offered organic soy milk alongside cow’s milk — with no parent or doctor’s note required.

Soy milk offers a nutritious choice for students with lactose intolerance, dairy allergies, or a preference for plant-based foods. And now, thanks to the pilot’s success, NYC is expanding the program to 12 schools this fall! foe.org/news/nyc-soy...

For a deeper dive, our new Food Land & Money report shows why the industrial food system needs deep transformation. The ecocide of the Brazilian Cerrado, profiled in the report, is a case study in agribusiness-led environmental abuse. foodlandmoney.org

Banks can’t claim to protect nature while financing companies linked to deforestation, peatland destruction, pollution and rights abuses. Strong NDPE policies. Independent verification. Consequences for repeat offenders. #Biodiversity

Factory farms generate massive amounts of manure that pollute waterways, threaten drinking water, and harm public health. Public funding should help address this pollution — not prop up an industrial agriculture system that puts corporate profits ahead of people and the planet.

Maryland has committed more than $15 million in taxpayer money to animal waste technologies without publicly demonstrating that the investments have meaningfully reduced nutrient pollution, improved water quality, or benefitted public health.
