Well, that was a horrible bout of demotivation... But, Now we've got a magical bow in, with idle, and attack animations. Down to just a few sprites i need to replace before i've redone all the art from #Kenney art. #RogueToDestruction #GameDev

The greedy playtesting bot makes decisions i would.. never make. Charge/Zap is... a... build... I guess. To be fair, it's a lot more mobile than i play. #RogueToDestruction #GameDev

One advantage to having a Crowd Excitement mechanic is that you can mine it for cool hype shots from your unit tests! Here we have a rogue utterly dominating the start of Round 9. Debating if i need to replace the Kenney assets entirely before i publish it on Itch or not.

Starting to add in the crowd. Now, to make em useful. After all, you can already hear when you get em excited... they should be able to throw you useful things when they like you. Hopefully... they don't have anything to throw if they don't. #gamedev #roguelight

I found myself wondering how hard it would be, with modern tools, to translate Rom2.4b6 to a 2d graphical game. So, i grabbed school.are, and Claude, and started designing and testing. Now, at this point , i've got a minimal Rom2.5D (heh), that's playable. Curious if there's interest.

Did you know bsky is a game distribution platform? If only most QR code scanners accepted data: urls, you'd be able to play the worlds most minimal version of #guitarhero #gamedev

Here's a screen shot of the actual UI. It's got three lanes. 4 songs, Fur Elise, Happy Birthday, Daisy Daisy, and a secret final song. See if you can recognize it. (And then don't sue me please!! hehe)

Slimes in games are always just piles of goo. What happens if you have a pile of sentient rgb goo? Mimics. Mimic's are what you get when you have a pile of sentient, angry, rgb goo.

Huh. Those turkey legs, and bombs keep getting knocked off the belt and into that pit. But if i poke this switch... the turkey legs go through. Bet... there's another switch for the bombs. (Well, there will be when i build it... hehehe) #ZeldaLike #solodev

So, i've just pushed out a playable build of my game. "Roguelike Academy. Freshman Year" fotd-games.com This is version 0.3.0, so, while it's playable, and beatable, and most of the features are there... bugs likely abound. All of the art, and music are placeholders. #Roguelike #solodev

Out of curiosity, how many people have "Upstairs" projects, and "Downstairs" projects? or something similar? I have one game i'm working on in my office, and the little PoC i just pushed out was (until yesterday) my upstairs project, for when i'm jiggling the baby, or minding the youngin.

I've built the worlds smallest randomizer. It's got a Sphere 0, a Sphere 1, and a Sphere 2. Proper logic is followed when laying out the items. Sphere 1 requires either the key or the ring of jumping, sphere 2 requires *both*. In theory, there's a sphere 3, ([key|ring] sword), but you can

This is the first image of a succesfull spawn of the third floor, with the miniboss room, the stairs and everything connected. I'd still call it a fail, because the way the corridor is drawn into the boss area breaks some specific corridor rules, but damn does it feel nice to have it in.

I've been working on wizard spells. Here, we get to see one of the wizards starting spells (Curse of Life Drain, a DoT), and one of the more powerful spells, Ice storm. #gamedev #roguelike

Working on a tileset generation tool for my own pipeline. I'm betting there's tools that already do exactly this, but i don't know what they are, and it feels like the learning curve to find and master them is higher than the effort curve of just writing my own.

The idea is to create a system with a bunch of passes i can add and fiddle with to build up a tileset from a bare template to a usable tileset, or something close enough to usable that even someone with my egregious art skills can finish it.

ChatGPT just gave me a task. Hah! It actually makes sense in context api.txt is a file i generate and pass back to the llm to prevent function name drift. The llm doesn't know i generate it locally, and doesn't need to. but it's actually worked pretty well.

With the next step being beter UX and Tileset stuff in DungeonSmith, i decided i needed a tool to mark up tilesets with autotile data. But, writing that is boring. So, instead, I coached a local LLM thru the process of writing it, in a language i don't use regularly. #IndieDev

The best analogy I can give you for working with LLMs is to an old Minecraft Mod. Mystcraft. It let you build a dimension, as specifically, or as generically as you'd like, using a cute little DSL made out of runes. But, anything you don't specify? Up for grabs.

You didn't say what kind of rain should happen? Oh, cool, it's gonna rain skeletons. Did you say specifically say everything shouldn't be covered in lava? No? Gues what? Everything's covered in lava. You have to be *specific* and *detailed* when instructing llms.

I know what you're thinking, "generative ai, yuck" but, this is a tool, for my hobby use, and the process of generating it was interesting and instructive. To get an LLM to emit an entire, functioning application, where you've written *no code* that matches your required spec is not easy.

Several times i found myself explaining things to the LLM in a way i wouldn't have been able to without years of experience. Which makes it more amusing that I learned several random bits about JS development that I'd never needed to know before. (Still don't. wonder if i'll retain? Heh)

#DungeonSmith #SoloDev #LibGDX The backend of DungeonSmith just received a massive refactoring. Going from a monolith to a series of microservices. The front end is temporarily incommunicado, as i rewrite the rest api to use WebFlux, but it still works for local editing and play.

I was just reminded i have a fully usable RogueLike engine, written from the ground up in Java 8 that i should also be cleaning up and pulling into my Employment facing public repo. Guess i have a short project to do after finishing this first pass at DungeonSmith.
