Going to attempt an updated/better explanation of the Classic Fredo Concept: The Gunstar Heroes Zone™. A game belongs in The Gunstar Heroes Zone™ when it gains an outsize fandom and/or reputation relative to the impact the game had when it originally game out.

Just for the record I want everyone to know that I am not joking or being hyperbolic when I say that scalping should be a capital offense and I urge the nation's politicians to campaign on this stance if they want to secure my vote

I remember when the cybertruck first came out there was a video from one of the booster accounts all featuring some guys kicking at the doors to make it look maximally durable and that's so funny in retrospect now that we've seen a million videos of people easily tearing them apart

Like obviously even at the time any remotely sensible person knew the video was bullshit but seeing the flood of videos afterwards of people just pulling off the panels with no tools or anything was amazing, the absolute hubris to put out a video like that knowing it was that flimsy lmao

I'm pretty surprised the whole "game journalists are bad at games" stereotype is still so prolific, like I know it's an astroturfed thing tied to gamergate and fueled primarily by a handful of viral videos such as the infamous ign doom thing but I'm surprised to see it cited in places like reddit

I also find it kind of funny how I often see them compared unfavorably to streamers in this regard, because I'd bet money that the average person writing about games is more experienced and skilled than the average person who streams them

sorry for the rant here but I just saw this brought up in a thread re: silver pines on the otherwise pretty sensible r/games board and I was pretty taken aback to see even that audience doing the chudbro "heh these 'journalists' totally suck am i right fellow gamers" schtick

There are of course gonna be exceptions and times where people have to review games in genres they are less familiar with but this idea that they're overwhelmingly clueless non-gamers is obviously empirically untrue if you're paying attention like, at all

I am especially frustrated with the anti woke "gamers" as of late because here we are watching the industry get completely destroyed as a direct obvious result of the excesses of capitalism fuelled by right wing economic policy, and all of these supposedly passionate lifelong gamers don't care

Private equity, leveraged buyouts, erosion of worker rights, union busting, 8 figure executive pay packages, obvious corporate malfeasance, unregulated predatory loot boxes and Skinner box gambling psychology bullshit, out of control hardware pricing, this is the shit that is making games worse

But all I ever hear about from these guys is oh the boobladies aren't hot enough, the mortal kombat girls wear too much clothes now, they censored the vagina bones, aloy only has c cups, the guy who sells you gun mods is gay, there's an 8 pixel trans flag on a desk, just endless bullshit
