Every time I see 911 owner discourse I wonder what the great performance car with good owners is. It certainly isn’t Ferrari and Corvette owners. I guess I’ve mostly only met cool Lotus Guys?

Every time I read one of these headlines, I am mostly just reminded that these products did not already exist. What do you mean GM wasn't already planning hybrid three-rows?

Sexiest Man Alive being an annual award kind of negates the need for Alive in there, no? I get that you had to put it on the first one or you couldn't otherwise justify giving it to anyone but Alcibiades or Lizst. But now that it's annual? Might be time to change the title, guys.

Look I know Paul Newman would have gotten more likes but I promise this is a good joke, go look up Lizst in 1844 or Plutarch on Alcibiades this is some of my best work

The Sacramento Kings are terrible but the great news is that a bunch of other basketball teams are also terrible and, unlike one of them, the Kings didn’t trade their future to waste a future first ballot hall of famer’s time

I think any play where you hit your face really hard and then walk it off is innately cool. I also think you should probably get checked for a concussion at the half-inning break.

There are a lot of lovely Rays fans on this site but it is kind of hard to look at just about any crowd at that place and not think that maybe, potentially, there is not a full-sized MLB fanbase in Tampa.

tremendously embarrassing by rays fans to get your park overtaken by a fanbase from 1500 miles away IN THE WORLD SERIES

I know the team owners won't pay to keep anyone and I get that this is terrible for building a fanbase. I know that the park is quite bad. I'm sure it's a bother to get to. It's still just not getting filled out by Rays fans regularly.

I also get that it was expensive for the ALCS and is probably expensive for the World Series, but this is also true of all other parks in October. Bigger market teams definitely do drown out even very successful and excited small market teams, too. It's just not usually Brewers fans in Florida.

I am a sucker for any and all takes people have after seeing the movie 300, a film that depicts a battle the Spartans lost in a war their allies won for them.

If you enjoy the homoerotic overtones of the film 300 and would still like to celebrate a group of 300 Hellenic infantrymen without being roped in with guys who watched the film 300, the Sacred Band of Thebes are always there for you. Or, rather, were there for you from 378-338 BCE.

It needs to be said: George Siciliano is both a funnier and more memorable name than Squirrel McNutt

George Siciliano (Squirrel McNutt) will be racing full time in ARCA next year for Rette Jones Racing. (via u/BucketOCheerios) reddit.com/comments/1xg7yza #NASCAR

That clip of Zach LaVine complaining about the Kings not having any leadership is magical because it is both true and in large part the fault of Zach LaVine, the oldest and most decorated player on the roster.

Zach LaVine hit the nail on the head that this team is in dire need of a steady veteran leader who can be the face of the team in public and in private. He is also the main candidate for that on the roster on paper. He is also the only guy who would do worse at that job in practice than Sabonis.

"Somebody needs to step up" well it's not going to be you and it's not going to be Sabonis so are we thinking the 19-year-old rookie who loves shooting volume, the famously quiet fifth-year defensive wing, or the massive French kid with a computer science degree?

It is kind of incredible how quickly musk’s policy of open revenge on employees of a company he bought caught on with these guys. You do it like this to tell staff you want them all gone within the year.

these people gonna crash & burn so hard. It's so obvious in everything they do, from the overpay to balloon payment to court filings, (alleged blacklist), but not the least of which is cuz they appear to be clueless AF @ dealing with creatives - lifeblood of their org, and I'm popping corn for it

Provided we are not due for another round of superlicense review procedure, I see no reason not to put Herta in the Cadillac. I also see no reason not to pull the cord after 10 races and put him back in IndyCar if he struggles, then promote a WEC driver and prepare to do the same next year.

His F2 season has been terrible compared to the expectations set in the rest of his pro career. Bottas has also been very bad in the F1 car and, crucially, the car is too bad for any of this to really matter right now. Try out your guy now and mercifully free him if it doesn't work out.

This is the one thing we should let umpires do. Much like fouling in basketball, and completely unlike balls-and-strikes, it is an annoying system that is far better than the alternative.

mtsw@mtsw.bsky.social

The vibes-based "I know it when I see it" system of umpires determining if a swing was successfully checked or not is actually fine — a time-tested and effective solution to an annoying problem — and anyone trying to write a new rule to make it "objective" is a sicko who should not be trusted.

This is also a thing that European auto racing championships say to justify their absolutely ludicrous total fan estimates. Daniel Ricciardo currently stars in an ad that claims F1 has somewhere in the area of 800 million fans; that is not a number you can arrive at while saying fans watch races.

hester@thehestercution.bsky.social

"You no longer think about F1 as something that you've got to go to every race or watch every race on television to be a fan, right?" (Liberty Media President and CEO) Derek Chang said. It's actually good that people don't watch all the races!

I love having an email address visible to the public. How else would I learn about the coveted lifetime achievement award being given out at New York BagelFest this year?

My official stance on Larson potentially locking it up next week:

“A Hendrick car that was mid all year got hot and made the chase a rout” yeah it’s the chase that’s what happened about half the time this format was run

The win and stage race bonuses are goofy and played heavily in Larson's favor, but this is the regular season format, too. He was mediocre most of the year, but only ten races count for even moderately good teams. He was best by far in those. Thus, title a race early.

His win yesterday is a microcosm of this whole thing. Is this a silly way to decide a champion? Yeah, but we spent a decade deciding it in worse ways. Similarly, winning from eighth because nobody knows what to do with their hands is better than winning from third by wrecking two leaders on accident

Larson won a bullshit championship on tire strategy and restart luck last year but he basically won his first title the same way. We don't think about this because he clearly deserved that one for being the best driver that season by far. A winner chosen this way is is far preferable to that.

Acuff missed his last five after being great most of the game. 22-7 but another night under 40% shooting after being well above the line all night.

Both Achiuwa and Mogbo have looked Very Interesting at 4 tonight, which is useful because the Kings have three better centers but could easily pair any of them with a true 4

Zach LaVine is playing one of the nastiest quarters of shamelessly low effort basketball I’ve ever seen and additionally has 12 in the period on exclusively bad idea attempts

You will never see a player worse at what he’s not good at

Keith Parish@fastbreakbreak.bsky.social

here’s a good clip to explain Zach lavine to your grandkids when they are marveling at his basketball reference stats

The question for future generations will be how such a shooter, scorer, and athlete could be any less than a career star and the answer will be that those are the only three positive traits he has whatsoever
