Magnificent fan vaulting above the choir and altar in Bath Abbey. built in the time of Henry VII by Master Masons Robert and William Vertue. #ceilingsonsunday #tudor

This interview is wild 😆

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

My original illustration I did on stream for #savethevaquita week is up for auction! All profits from this will also be donated to Porpoise.Org to aid with helping save the vaquita. ebay.io/m/G8q45I

Drone photographer Theresa Graham (tgraham.photography on IG) captured this Ornate Eagle Ray (Aetomylaeus vespertilio) off Ningaloo Reef in Western Australia. These rays are called the "unicorn of the sea": fewer than 100 sighting have been documented. We suspect they're critically endangered.

I missed #SaveTheVaquita Day! I forgot I had made a comic about these ages ago (so long that I had to check if the Baiji is still listed as 'possibly extinct' or just 'extinct' 😭) vaquita.day #Comics #Webcomics #Cetacean #Whales #Endangeredspecies #Conservation #Animalart #Sciart #NatureArt

UPDATE since this is a very old comic: The vaquita is not extinct yet, but there may be less than 20 individuals left 😱 The last known living baiji died in 2002 but the species has not yet been declared officially extinct 😨

Nothing will beat the Gandalf / balrog version, but... Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume? Science educator: My approach rejects the education deficit model and focuses on meeting life-long learners wherever they are, and scaffolding understanding using empathy

Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume? Photographer: It’s called negative space and it’s an important part of balancing a composition.

Just heard about Disney's "Coven Academy" and I swear to the ancient ones that me n' @marlenacannon.bsky.social named our book "Fate Academy" first 😭 #authorproblems #indieauthor (yes I live under a rock, the moss is nice, join me - but also, it was kindof a working a title, should we change it?)

Commonly* known as the long-legged land shrimpie! *by me, just now

Taracus carmanah!!! Known only from its type localities and specimens. Somehow we found one individual during a bioblitz last weekend. These are the first photos of a live individual, and is the first individual seen alive! Still buzzing from this find. #arachtober #harvestmen #opiliones

cat tax #cats (not my cat, she's feral, but likes me for some reason - ie snacks - despite the fact I had her fixed and had to lock her in the bathroom for a week while she recovered)

Much-needed day of reading under a tree with a sleepy cat on my lap and wind-bathing. Three chapters in so far and very much enjoying it #books #reading #BookSky

chaos sketching with whatever I found lying around just to try to MAKE something #opossumposting because my sis and I are working on a book that features an #opossum (kinda)

I can't even post a "this is fine" joke about this. This is not fine.

A cartoonist named Daniel "Des" Rolando Sanchez Estrada was tried as a terrorist and sentenced to 30 years in prison for having anti-Trump comics in his car. Prosecutors connected him to a 2025 anti-ICE protest he didn't even attend because he was in the same book club as others who were.

even if LLM actually made gamedev more efficient, which I see no reason to believe it has or will, that won't reduce crunch, because the business people will just push harder until you're crunching again. When a tool increases worker productivity, that doesn't translate into better work hours.

15-20 years ago, i would've told myself, "im not working hard enough." Now im saying, "why do we have to work that much just to live?" Do you even get to "live?" To allow yourself to be exploited for labor, and tell yourself it's all worth it?

Also, today I learned that bat droppings will crush into a fine powder if you squish 'em, whereas mouse droppings won't. (At least, our local bat varieties - apparently it's the remains of moths they've eaten)

Found this poor bat in the barnyard, probably looking for water. It's incredibly hot and dry. The local bat rescue came and took it for some TLC 🥺 (and then nerded out about all the bat droppings in the barn)

still not quite over the fact that i watched 15 year olds get sued for millions of dollars for downloading twelve songs and now we all have to accept AI slop because every tech company in the known universe decided that IP laws don't exist now that they're inconvenient for them

A robot I approve of! This is the kind of tech innovation that's actually useful (and saves lives! grain silos are dangerous!)

c0nc0rdance@c0nc0rdance.bsky.social

Chad Johnson is CEO of 'Grain Weevil'. His son did robotics competitions in high school, which inspired this little fella that breaks up hardened surfaces & levels grain to ensure it behaves like a liquid, avoids clumping. This probably saves 10-30 human lives a year. NO BOOTS IN THE GRAIN.

Tiliqua rugosa is a species of blue-tongued skink native to Australia that has many names: Shingleback Bobtail 'Sleepy Lizard' & my favorite: Pinecone Lizard. Let's talk about the time a zookeeper's burnt lunch led to a discovery about how the sleepy lizard survives Australian wildfires.
