This is so so true. It's all over the Nassar case.

All of this. I also want to add that, in my research, I found that a lot of “inconsistencies” in a victim’s story actually came from gender bias affecting investigators’ record keeping and interview methods.

GOT MY BALLOT. I'm going to fill it out and vote today. VOTE as SOON as you can. Help us canvassers - once your ballot arrives at your county registrar's office, your name goes OFF OUR LISTS.

As nice as it is to knock on doors for people we can count on for the anti-fascist vote, our time is best spent reaching people who don't tend to vote, or who need to know more about how their vote matters.

Today I'm thinking about something that happened last year. I was asked to recuse myself from a decision involving a faculty member because years ago I indicated to one of his colleagues that I thought he was a sexist. I did recuse myself, reluctantly.

Sexist forms of common sense are very powerful. People made disclosures about Larry Nassar for years. Years. Disclosures that involved minors. People did not experience those disclosures as disclosures. DM if you want a copy of my essay on that. read.dukeupress.edu/differences/...

Many people do no realize this about each other and themselves. Sexist common sense doesn't feel like sexism. Anyway, I joked if I had to recuse myself from working with people I thought were sexist, I wouldn't be able to do any committee work. That's the truth.

Sexist forms of common sense have everything to do with how Cornell campus authorities had a student tell them that they were raped & they came away from that thinking that she was not raped & that this was not the kind of disclosure that requires them to report that to police.

I explained, most of the men that work at our institutions are sexist. Many women too. I'm a feminist scholar who works on harassment. We all live w/ sexist thinking & assumptions. Being a feminist means you are working with, from that truth.

read this book in bed while recovering from thesis submission, really like it / really attached to it. genuinely startling to see a decade-old book this incisive about the carceralism, gender binarization, and foundational shame that shapes narratives of sexual violence

Jennifer Doyle@fromaleftwing.bsky.social

This book is about the administration of harassment complaints on campuses, our ideas about campus safety/security, sexual vulnerability and the institution. It's out of print so, with the publisher's permission, I am sharing a PDF. drive.google.com/file/d/1S5vE...

This whole thing really is one for the books — the women's sports of it all is too much!

Gobsmacked by the elite levels of not knowing ball in the Senate today, thinking an NBA team is called the Hawkeyes then, refusing to Google it, then accusing a guy of treason because you didn’t know the Iowa Lady Hawkeyes aren’t in the NBA. Somehow I don’t trust these people to Save Girls Sports.

Just did 5 days in Phoenix. I am heading back in October. Amish Shah is a great candidate for AZ CD1 (Scottsdale) & is totally electable. It's be an important win for the country. So many people new to AZ will be voting in CD1 for the first time, ideal folks to meet on the door!

In AZ you have to show that to register to vote, so if you get a mail-in ballot, it's because you have already done this and how exactly would one show ID in order to mail something? About 80% of Arizonans vote by mail!

There are 3 Dem incumbents up for election in AZ - Gov Hobbs, Attorney General Mayes, and Sec of State Fontes. All three are freakin warriors. The people they are running against are truly frightening.

There is also a pile of 💩 on the ballot, thanks to the R-controlled state legislature. Things like ye ole bathroom bill, and a prop calling for showing proof of citizenship for mail-in ballots. 🤔

I canvass with these folks! They are really great and these are all high-impact sites for canvassing. If you have $, donate if you can't get out there yourself. It helps get working class and underemployed people out talking to working class and underemployed people!

NEW: French researcher Stephanie Lamy exposes the network of “race realists” who hunted Jason Arday like prey, and the media that fell into his trap. If you think the news cycle has “moved on” from this story, ask yourself why? broligarchy.substack.com/p/the-killin...

Must-listen. Lamy’s article is the only actual reporting on Arday’s harassment I’ve seen. These folks voiced it so you can listen to it.

As someone who has participated in campus disciplinary hearings, I am really disgusted by these abuses of the process—it is a corruption of a process that requires integrity and community trust for it to have any meaning.

He was banned from campus through the investigation: this step is normally reserved for cases in which accused poses a credible threat to the community. Across the state, this ban has been applied to faculty & students demonstrators protesting UC complicity in genocide & its normalization.

In cases like his, folks are not accused of threatening behavior. He was accused of blocking sidewalks — charges that fell apart under scrutiny. This is harassment, meant to intimidate if not him, then the rest of the campus community.
