« Aucune des décisions que nous prenons n’est une promesse en l’air. Tout ce que nous disons sera fait et sera respecté dans des délais précis et de manière chiffrée », a déclaré Edouard Geffray, ministre de l’éducation nationale

[HOMMAGE] Le CNRS a appris avec une grande tristesse le décès de Pierre Joliot, pionnier de la photosynthèse et figure de la recherche au CNRS. Nos condoléances à sa famille et à ses proches. 👉 www.insb.cnrs.fr/fr/cnrsinfo/...

just tried it. Great tool !

LoL-align is out in @natmethods.nature.com! It aligns protein structures without superposition. More sensitive than TM-align and DALI, producing better alignments 5–20× faster. Now available in Foldseek! 📄 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Congratulations. Very happy to see this work published

Four days ago, a scientist was surprised by the news that Anthropic discovered new virus genes for making DNA. He says he’s been studying them for years—and feeding his data to Anthropic’s AI as part of his own research. Coincidence? Here’s my story. nyti.ms/3VSWayc

nyti.msDid Anthropic’s A.I. Really Make a Scientific Discovery on Its Own? (Gift Article)An expert at the University of Copenhagen said his team had been sharing its research with the company’s A.I. model, Claude, and that its new finding matched their work.

🎉 Out today in Cell: the paper I've been looking forward to sharing for a long time 🎉 We used cryo-ET to find a molecular machine nobody knew existed on the surface of a minimal bacterium, and worked out what it does. 🧵(1/7) #TeamTomo #cryoET

I'm excited to share our new preprint, where we show that fine-tuning gold nanoparticle conjugation to different Fab structural elements can produce powerful, rigidly coupled, labeling tools for in-situ cryo-ET. Take a look if you want to see an AuNP in an EM map!🔬🧠 www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

@cnrs banned Claude from our labs. We are not allowed to use it and cannot pay access to these ressources with research grants. This is a NONSENSE. We are wasting time and money. And above all undermine our competitiveness

Pedro Beltrao@pedrobeltrao.bsky.social

Anthropic has used Claude to optimise structure prediction and design code to improve speed and memory efficiency. 2-3X speed improvements on AF3, 5X on OF3, 5X on BindCraft low memory modes to model large assemblies. All released as open source www.anthropic.com/research/cla...

Using Claude science for a « in silico » structural biology project. Definitely very useful to automate processing pipelines and data processing. But makes a lot of errors and is going in the wrong direction if not carefully guided and monitored. To be handled with great care

Here is the problem with IA leadership. One day they say something that seems reasonable (regulation, safeguards), and the next something completely nuts… It shows that these people cannot be trusted to manage such a sensitive technology.

Can you tell how an antibiotic kills bacteria just by watching them under a regular microscope — without any dyes ? Yes, it turns out, at least if you are a deep neural net.

MemBrain v2 is on @natmethods.nature.com now? I never had a @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social with 164 citations before😅 ...Which is also to say: Thank you to the amazing #TeamTomo community, many of whom not only beta tested, but also contributed diverse training data. This one belongs to all of us! 🤗🔬🧪

A wild publishing ride to get here... but finally! (first bioRxiv: January 5th, 2024 🙃) Amazing work from @lorenzlamm.bsky.social and colleagues 🤗 Special thanks to the community who jumped early on the boat, sharing feedback and training data to make MemBrain v2 a reality 🙏🏽
