The Global Anime Challenge, an initiative by the Agency of Cultural Affairs, has revealed the directors, producers and animators which will be participating in the project. They will be sent for an internship abroad with the goal of producing a pilot film by 2026.

Still, it is important for the initiative to test it out and see what kind of experiences these creators are able to bring back with them. The goal is for the selected people to become important figures in the anime industry who can share what they learned abroad.

owever, Global Anime Challenge does seem promising, especially as it does take into account why previous initiatives have failed. Whereas previous initiatives were at most over a year, GAC aims to be an accompaniment over several years (3 in the case of this first installment)

Notable among the selection is Bocchi the Rock and Frieren director Keiichiro Saitou, but also ex-MAPPA producer Makoto Kimura, who recently set up his anime studio, BLUE RIGHTS. Global Anime Challenge aims at promoting these creators as household names of the anime industry.
