we need jason quick to ask vít krejčí when he last shed tears so we can get to the bottom of why he shot 41.9% in 154 games with the hawks but is now shooting 29.3% in 21 games as a blazer

a thoughtful and well-written article that captures how punitive cap rules in the apron era impact fandom and long-term team building. but imo it’s hard to separate the entry of private equity ownership into the nba and a profit-over-winning mindset from the conversation, which wasn’t mentioned.

Parity is wonderful. But it's come at a cost, creating a league of perpetual change, with no room for affection, loyalty, or sentimentality. Latest from me, at The Ringer:

i grew up with a blazers owner willing to spend. irresponsibly, even. now ownership groups strip teams for parts and cut costs to maintain profitability while sitting on inflating valuations. there’s a middle ground between wealthy benefactors and enshittified private equity that we haven’t found.

someone help me understand how a lawyer, of all people, is earnestly confused and paranoid about why the politicians they are negotiating with over $600m in public funding would prefer to have answers to their questions in writing. seems like a fairly boilerplate request. why be so weird about it??

why the obsession over public optics? are you concerned about losing some kind of leverage? if so, what leverage is there to be lost if public opinion sways against you? just negotiate in good faith without being weirdos. you’re getting gift-wrapped a record-setting amount of public funding!

fuck man tom dundon is literally the billionaire owner who buys the outdated but locally cherished ski resort with plans to shut it down unless a lovable gang of goofballs and outcasts can beat his fail-son in a downhill ski race. dundon is a living and breathing south park character i stg.

why the fuck would the city agree to amend the existing lease agreement with rip city management before starting negotiations on a new lease agreement? that's literally what the negotiation is for--a new lease agreement where the org. can negotiate for its preferred terms! transparently bad faith.
