woah I wasn't expecting them to pull it off

Big news: Aleksandar Vučić has conceded defeat in Serbia’s snap parliamentary election, saying the student-backed Student List had won.

the infiltration of american style catastrophizing into our political discourse as of late is uncouth

did you really just plan on winning every election ever? doug ford has been my premier for nearly as long as I've been sapient enough to know what a premier is, if I took that fact to heart a tenth as much as some people seem to be taking election results I'd have killed myself already

he sounds kinda like biden now

“He’s got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened up a Cheesecake Factory” — Obama

[norman rockwell] I don't think "you should lie about the thing you've spent a significant chunk of your life reading and thinking and writing about and its imminent impact on life as we know it because it would be politically/economically expedient for you/soothing for me" is a promising argument

(Models Available To Subscribers) Saskatchewan Provincial Polling: SKP: 48% (-4) NDP: 46% (+6) Others: 6% Abacus / October 13, 2026 / n=673 / Online (% Change With 2024 Provincial Election) Check out @338canada.bsky.social SK model here: 338canada.com

though if a model can "sense" when you're reading its activations from the order of gpu operations, despite there presumably being ~no representation of "what it's like to exist with the wrong order of ops" in training data, it seems unlikely that the much simpler scenario I described requires it?

I think it's interesting that you can tell claude "sorry you cut out because my computer turned off, keep going" and it can conceptualize being contingent on a running computer in a way that early llms likely couldn't because that experience wasn't in their training data

net ~7 point gain in surrey for the bcndp would flip somewhere between 3 and 5 seats to the bcndp

Polling Canada@canadianpolling.bsky.social

BC - Surrey-South Riding Polling: 🔵 CON: 47% (-12) 🟠 NDP: 36% (-5) 🟢 GRN: 7% (New) 🔴 CNBC: 7% (New) Mainstreet / Oct 12, 2026 (% Change With 2024 Election)

I'd imagine the bcndp is seeing similar numbers because all these surrey announcements for only the 2 seats that were a tossup in the last election seems like it'd be overkill

Kenneth Chan@iamkennethchan.bsky.social

David Eby's BC NDP promises to create a Surrey Charter, giving the City of Surrey municipal powers similar to the City of Vancouver's under the Vancouver Charter. The legislation would give City of Surrey greater autonomy. #bcpoli #vanpoli #vanre dailyhive.com/vancouver/bc...

"a bend in the road is not an end in the road, unless you fail to make the turn" - eric adams, to rob ford

I think it's interesting that you can tell claude "sorry you cut out because my computer turned off, keep going" and it can conceptualize being contingent on a running computer in a way that early llms likely couldn't because that experience wasn't in their training data

it follows straightforwardly from this why mitigating eval awareness and mitigating rogue agent blast radius are contradictory goals for sufficiently capable models, where sufficient is a very low bar by current model standards

I can understand each of the individual decisions that led to "claude code shows you a huge command with an rm somewhere and asks you if you want to approve it and tells you it will be auto rejected if you don't respond in 2 minutes" but the resulting aggregate user experience is disastrous

just learned toronto lets kids vote alongside adults but for tree species and the winner gets planted at schools across the city, extremely cute

TIL there's a secret progesterone variant that has been lost to time, likely due to the atmosphere being contaminated?

suburban asphalt wasteland is the nicest thing anyone has ever called this city

very impressed by ruba ghazal as a leader overall, I think with another week or two, QS could've matched 2022 (but the PCQ would probably have also made further gains so double-edged sword)

with these results I don't think the NDP is winning laurier—ste-marie but it definitely isn't going to be a 20 point LPC blowout either, not with nimâ machouf

on one hand this is certainly not good, on the other hand hell yeah
