I also learned about an old arcade game called Mappy where you play as a mouse-cop trying to steal back the Mona Lisa from a gang of cat-thieves? Very inspirational tbh

I have this very loose design pillar for Gaarl that everything in the game should be "recognizably something", even if that something doesn't really belong. I am hoping that a big collection of somethings will accumulate into an interesting collage of stuff
