Change is inevitable and I always admire people who can see the opportunities that come with it. Especially when the change is not what you expect or what you hoped for.

Stay tuned here! I know I have some followers from Austin!

AUSTIN, TX putting this on your radar now, I will definitely be putting on a meetup there within the next few months 👀 Y'all have been asking for a couple years so let's do it big!

I don't buy into the future with very flat hierarchies and an unreasonable amount of direct reports (30+). When I hear this I only think that people don't understand what being a good lead means and the human aspect of it. How shallow will you be during growth review?

There have been some interesting tales on what lead/manager roles will look like in the AI future. Some were pretty wild, can't wait to write about it.

On my flight to SFO for the Pragmatic Summit! Woohoo Pretty sure I don't know anyone who's going but let me know if you need a buddy tomorrow!

Have a chat with Phil!

If you've run seaweedfs, versity, juicefs, beegfs, or rustfs—permissively-licensed s3-compatible storage systems— and are open to chatting about your experience, I'd like to chat with you for The Consensus.

It's a shame some get a very wrong idea about engineering management because they had a really bad one. Now they think that's what the role is. I had bad ones too and they helped me learn the type of manager I didn't want to be. Good managers make a difference and I try my best to be one of those!

This is a pretty cool list to follow, highly recommended!

You know who has starter packs already? @bsky.app 😏 Here's one I am maintaining for folks who write content for developers! go.bsky.app/AnM2t7r

I don't even play Stardew Valley but went on a binge of interviews of Eric. Pretty inspiring stuff and he seems quite chill about it all. Curious to see what Haunted Chocolatier is all about!

Please everyone, read more! I'd love for these stats to look better next year.

NEW: How many books did you read this year? If it was more than 2, congrats: you read more than the median American. Read on for way more @today.yougov.com polling from me on America's book-reading habits in 2025. 1/

The one thing I picked up joining a new company right at the beginning of COVID is being comfortable in zoom calls with plenty of strangers.

Every time I try to be more active online, I am reminded of how much content filtering I need to do. I'm not saying it's not worth it, but it is definitely tiring. Not sure how y'all do it.

Support for education is incredibly important to me. So to celebrate the holidays I'm running a fundraiser until Jan 1st. I'll take a 30-minute call with anyone who donates $50 to one of these educational non-profits. I'm kicking things off by donating $500 to Girls Who Code.

We are roughly at 80 days to the end of the year. I would recommend to help yourself reaching your goals with small measurable progress you can look at every other day. Those should build up to bigger milestones and help you keeping momentum. Don't set the bar too high from the start!

I didn't expect n8m to be this fun. I just started a few workflows, and 2.5 hours went by so fast. I think I actually got done way more than I thought I would. Pretty impressive!

Currently reading this and it's nostalgia right away. I love any story about the creation of the Internet, the web or in general any journey to such wonderful innovation. Thank you for taking the time to tell us your story!

Thank you to everyone reading my new memoir - you’ve made it an instant Sunday Times bestseller 🗞️ This Is for Everyone is available now from thisisforeveryone.timbl.com @thetimes.com

I forgot where I picked this up, maybe from "Writing to Learn" where it was recommending to understand and analyze why you like or why you dislike something. I started to better articulate why I like a blog post, a movie, a show, a book and found patterns of what I find to be good.

Once I can articulate that, it's even simpler to get better feedback from AI on anything you create. At that point, your feedback is incredibly targeted to exactly what you find to be good, and not just on general advice that might not align with your preference.

Finally regaining my sanity with a lot of offline activities. It's quite refreshing. You should try it! I think even just doodling is a good start.

There's really such a wide variety of points of view when it comes to AI and vibe coding. I joined an AI lunch event just a few days ago and ideas and opinions were flying around without pause, exciting times to be in the industry and connect with others.
