I GM'ed a round of #Daggerheart for my sister and two close friends in person yesterday. They started their journey through the Sablewood Messenger beginner's adventure.

So I offered her a compromise: She can work on the dreamcatcher as a downtime project with a progress countdown of 4 and once it is finished, she can use it once per long rest to negate me spending one fear, returning the spotlight back to the group.

@gamepadranger.de

I'm curious to see how she'll use it and whether it will end up biting me in the butt, but the way this idea naturally occurred to her, without any pre knowledge about ttrpgs in general, was really heartwarming to me. The way this game sparks creativity is amazing.

On their first long rest, my sister, who has never played a ttrpg in her entire life, asked if she could use the "Work on a project" downtime action to start crafting a Dreamcatcher in order to reduce my Fear by half. I really loved the idea, especially since she's playing a witch.

The Aggrieved proved itself to be a formidable foe for these four level 2 characters, even without any additional minions or supporters around. When the druid turned into a hawk to snatch the amulet from the center of the Aggrieved's torso, the spinning blades and debris caused him to mark 4 HP.

@gamepadranger.de

When the hawk then kept clinging onto the amulet, the Aggrieved used two spotlights in a row to keep bashing down it's axe onto the transformed druid, bringing him close to death. But the rest of the party was able to interfere and save their friend, ultimately besting the angry spirit.

Yesterday I ran the 9th session of our #daggerheart campaign. So far my players have actively decided to ignore the main story hook, that I had planned and instead expressed interest in following a red hering, that I had placed in session 1. They originally had come across a blighted boar.

GamepadRanger
@gamepadranger.de

Initially it was meant to be a side effect of the main plot they were following. Their interest in saving the forest animals grew so big, that I changed course, invented a separate curse that caused the blight and yesterday they were able to rid the the are of the unholy and corrupted influence.

GamepadRanger
@gamepadranger.de

But of course not without finding a hint about a completely different problem that's connected to it. That's what this game is all about. We are creating a story together. And if your players are not feeling the hook you put out, listen to what they take an interest in and adapt.

We have removed all of our content from DriveThruRPG. Choosing to be 'apolitical' rather than standing with an antifascist creator is a crazy move. @9thlevelgames.bsky.social have this as their pinned post. These are creators we feel proud to stand by.

Roll20, which owns DriveThruRPG, told Rebel Scum's designer (@9thlevelgames.bsky.social) that allowing their "hateful content" and political speech on its platform constituted a "slippery slope."
