What if they rewrote The Giving Tree, but instead the boywas a venture capitalist and the Tree was America’s working class? Oh, and instead of the tree letting the tired boy rest on its stump, the boy came back and ground the stump into mulch and sold it? That would be good and true

NEW: Chief Justice John Roberts bemoans that Americans don't understand how the Supreme Court operates and see justices as "political actors". The court at times simply has to make "unpopular" decisions, he adds: www.nbcnews.com/politics/sup...

It’s remarkable how irrelevant the House and Senate have made their role in American governance. We’re close to having two branches of government. This is why some of the most talented young politicians (Sherrill, Spanberger) are quitting to run for Governorships—they have power to do some good

The irony of the US approaching its 150th birthday under an administration that regularly violates the First, Second, Fourth, Eighth and Tenth Amendments is lost on way too many people

I just read The New Yorkers profile on Bari Weiss and it conveyed her enormous sense of self regard so effectively. She asserts her right to be in any room, regardless of her lack of expertise or experience, they proceeds to lecture everyone in that room. What an empty suit.

I miss the days when we could read about the deravity of the ruling elite of the Roman Empire and shake our heads and be grateful that nothing like that whatever ever happen in the United States

I always love these interviews with people that support openly illegal and/or Constitutionally prohibited actions by the government because it “drives liberals crazy.” Imagine loving our system of government so little that you’re willing to trash it just to piss some people off.

Beginning to believe that Trump was a useful fool for the tech oligarchs all along and now Murdoch and Thiel and Musk are sunsetting him with the help of Vance. Just a vibe, no proof, but this is getting very strange. Where is Trump?

When you get right down to it, crypto is really just a place for Boegess, drug runners, gun, smugglers, and tax evaders to hide their money. And the desire to participate in that enterprise as a way to make money says all you need to know about late stage capitalism

Here’s the truth about how our institutions work—inertia is the default. There are a thousand pathway to get to “no.” Housing, public transit, you name it. So obvious fixes don’t get done or cost 10x as much as they should. That’s a big reason people have lost faith in our government

You are up to date.
