On detective fiction

Read on Friday with Julie Mannell and Chris Banks at the ever great Phylum Press readings in St Catharines. Julie performed a moving piece with the phrase "The king of my poems" which really struck me. Though Julie's long poem was about grief and love, the phrase inspired this very different poem.

I dropped my defence lawyer wife off at the courthouse this morning and was reminded of another time when a woman was standing outside screaming and screaming at the courthouse. It chilled me to my bones.

Ha ha ha, I got to read it before it's officially out in the world! Anyway, if you (like me) enjoy novels where the main character is Death itself, then you (like me) will enjoy this one.
