People bitch that someone buying groceries with food stamps has a smart phone and a nice car. If you're laid off, the wireless company doesn't let you out of your 2-year contract on that phone! If you're upside down on the car loan, when you sell it you're still in debt and have no transportation.

You're better off making payments if you can until it's not upside down, or just hang on until it's repo'ed. Most of the people on assistance who are able to work, ARE WORKING—some more than one job. They don't make enough in this economy to cover housing, groceries and transportation.

Giant agribusiness, and corporate meat packers have been working hard to gut the USDA and FDA for decades. We're almost there, now.

I ask my butcher where the beef I buy comes from and he tells me where the ranch is located from the delivery that morning. Chickens sold whole, freshly killed, by my "chicken lady" in my local mercado. She even cuts the bird up with precision to my request. I buy nothing enveloped in plastic here.

Even my coffee is produced locally in Nayarit just north of my home here in Puerto Vallarta. Chocolate? I look south to Oaxaca and Chiapas for the cacao production. I have learned by experience that Mexico needs almost nothing from the USA.

The GOP is extreme right. The institutional Democrats are center-right. Policy-wise, Obama was to the right of Richard Nixon. By European standards, the progressive Democrats or social Democrats ARE the center. Nobody's calling for seizing the means of production and exterminating the bourgeoisie.
