Check out our paper!! It was such a fun project to work on. Also fantastic mentoring during my master's thesis by Dumont lab members馃専

Using microneedle manipulation, Mullin-Bernstein et al. @dumontlabucsf.bsky.social show that #microtubule bundles of the mammalian #anaphase spindle are mechanically coupled, transmitting force both laterally and between spindle poles. rupress.org/jcb/article/... #Mitosis #CellDivision #Biophysics

This artwork (rendered from real FIB-SEM data) was super fun to conceptualize and realize in its final form, and I'm honored to have it featured by @jcb.org! Read our paper if you're interested to learn more about the features we discovered in epithelial desmosomes.

馃敩 From our October issue (rupress.org/jcb/issue/22...): A rendering of a 3D #desmosome obtained from FIB-SEM imaging of A431 epithelial cells. The desmosome is visualized in gold to represent the integrity it provides to tissues such as the epidermis. See Bharathan et al. doi.org/10.1083/jcb....

A massive update: At least ~15 companies~ are selling scientists antibodies using faked validation data. We've documented 18,000+ manipulated images on 17,000+ products sold by leading laboratory suppliers including Thermo Fisher, Abcam, Santa Cruz Biotechnology, Millipore Sigma and Bio-Techne. 1/馃У

Excited that this is now out in MBoC @ascbiology.bsky.social Check out our new insights into the subset of cell junction proteins in action in migrating mesenchymal cells. Open access PMC version is in line being processed 馃И www.molbiolcell.org/doi/10.1091/...

The array of organs in the animal body differ dramatically in their architecture, but cell-cell adhesion mediated by cadherins is a common principle. Our lab usually focuses on epithelia but cadherins are also active in migrating mesenchymal cells like these migrating testis myoblasts 1/n 馃И

What does a desmosome look like in 3D? In my first corresponding author paper (!), we find that desmosomes don't always look identical across epithelia. But the coolest finding by far (and seen in TWO different epithelial models) is a HOLE in the desmosome. PMCID version coming soon!

Bharathan, Kowalczyk et al. provide the first comprehensive description of the 3D desmosome in A431 epidermoid carcinoma, human mammary epithelial cells, and airway epithelia in volume electron microscopy datasets. rupress.org/jcb/article/... #Adhesion #StructuralBiology

You are up to date.
