Yesterday, we brought the Geosolutions Leeds community together to celebrate the progress we have made since our establishment in 2022. Throughout the day, we showcased the breadth of our interdisciplinary subsurface research and how our approach is helping drive the clean energy transition.

The programme featured keynote speeches from Rosa Foster, Holger Kessler, and Lydia Brown, alongside short presentations highlighting our projects, and a poster session in the afternoon. A huge thank you to all our members for their contributions, and to our partners for their continued support.

4️⃣ Years of progress Since Geosolutions Leeds was established, we have launched new projects and recruited new talent to help drive the energy transition. 🔍 Click through the graphics to see how we are delivering on our goals!

In collaboration with members of Orkuveitan, ÍSOR (Iceland GeoSurvey), and Reykjavik University, Dr Esme Glastonbury-Southern and Dr Andy Nowacki have deployed a temporary seismic monitoring network of 51 nodal seismometers around the Hengill region in August.

Dr Craig Magee, has secured funding from UK Research and Innovation for his project: Sheet Intrusions and Fluid Transport (ShIFT). The project will transform how we represent magma intrusions in computational models that predict subsurface fluid flow through rocks. ➡️https://shorturl.at/euK8Z

This research spotlight shares Esme's journey in geoscience - from studying volcanoes in Iceland to conducting geothermal research in Leeds. Esme’s work is improving our understanding of geothermal systems and supporting the move toward cleaner, more sustainable energy for the future.

Dr Na Yan will be providing insights into her new project at the UK Carbon Capture and Storage Research Centre's final Focused Funding webinar. 📅 9 September, Wednesday ⌛ 10 AM 📍 Online More info about all the projects and sign up for the webinars here ➡️ ukccsrc.ac.uk/focused-fund...
