Fascinating article, Living in the Weimar Era of Ruby https://blog.julik.nl/2026/10/the-weimar-of-ruby
I’m trying to figure out if Spinel-native framework compilers like roundhouse or tep are genius or madness. And do I need to build one for Sidekiq? https://github.com/rubys/roundhouse https://github.com/oripekelman/tep
The 2027 Gem Fellowship is quickly approaching. This year we are putting out a call to any companies using Ruby: Join us in supporting the maintainers! https://www.mikeperham.com/2026/10/15/coming-soon-the-2027-gem-fellowship/
Seen at @Euruko, really proud of our 2026 Gem Fellows. 2027 is coming soon!

@1password I’m a family customer and cannot begin to express how disappointed I am with your sponsorship of Omarchy, an organisation led by DHH, a white nationalist who has outright called for the ethnic cleansing of Europe. I’m just one subscription, but if you continue this, I won’t be giving […]

I'm prototyping Ractor-safety in various Sidekiq features and have the entire Sidekiq test suite passing green with the Ractor-safe LocalPool in https://github.com/mperham/ratomic instead of using connection_pool. Still a LONG ways to go but encouraging...

Anyone in (or near) Seattle and into Ruby: #XORuby is happening Saturday! Looks like tickets are still available according to their web site. https://www.xoruby.com/event/seattle/

Some updates and stats for #Amiko (#Rails fork): ~650 boosts for the “this is happening” post. That’s *huge* numbers for the Fediverse, in my experience. 98 people in the matrix space as of right now. Should break 100 shortly. Code exploration has started, we’re learning out how to do this […]

RE: https://mastodon.social/@harpaa01/116993120522403868 I’ll be there! #xoruby
To any fellow Rubyists in the PNW: XO Ruby is having a conference in Seattle on 8/8, and you should go! It's a refreshing break from super expensive conferences you have to pay thousands to travel to. It's local, just one day, on a Saturday, and costs just $100. I'll be bringing some fidget […]

I've set up a Matrix space for anyone up for forking #Rails away from #DHH's influence. Let's start actively working on this. https://matrix.to/#/#forking-rails:matrix.org (If there's already a space for this, do let me know, I'll go there instead)
RE: https://ruby.social/@spinel/116965667079861714 RV now supports private gem servers like Sidekiq’s. Hurrah! 🎉
@sferik btw your GitHub profile does not point to your active Mastodon account but does point to your inactive X account.
This new gem from @sferik looks to be extremely useful for regression testing fast paths within a code base. Extraneous allocations can cripple a fast path and hugely affect performance. https://github.com/sferik/minitest-memory/
I've spend a non-trivial amount of time trying to avoid using native Ruby gems on my servers. It's been increasingly difficult and now appears to be impossible since ruby-core has moved basic functionality like `date` and `bigdecimal` into gems. Now my system requires a gigabyte of compiler […]
I worked with the fine folks at @flagrant to rework my corporate brand over the last few months. They published this nice case study about the work. It was a pleasure! https://www.beflagrant.com/work/contributed-systems-rebrand-and-refresh The final result is here: contribsys.com
One year of rv, an update from @indirect https://andre.arko.net/2026/06/13/rv-plan-and-progress/
I've started publishing SHA256 sums for each sidekiq gem release. Is anyone aware of any better tooling for integrity verification for published binaries before I homebrew a bunch of scripts? It's pretty awkward as is. https://sidekiq.org/sha256sum.txt

the cyberpunk present is weird as fuck: the latest Shai Hulud malware wave contains an LLM prompt to create biological weapons and nuclear weapons, with the purpose to trip LLM safety refusals so that LLM-based code scanning wont see the malware […] [Original post on indieweb.social]
RE: https://mastodon.social/@macrumors/116715954580036781 One of the nice things about watches is they become part of YOU. It’s normal to wear the same mechanical watch for decades. Treating it like a 5 yr disposable item sucks.
I’m reviewing the proposed bylaws for Ruby Central and: - I can’t find an actual board member election process so I presume board members are still board elected, not community elected. - the new community governance model is strictly advisory, with no teeth (12.3) - community governance can be […]

RE: https://hails.org/@hailey/116657391001259044 I'm seeing this with Sidekiq too. Lots of small PRs with minor changes, adding test coverage, fixing edge cases which never occur in practice, etc. I can't speak to rsync but it's nothing to worry about for Sidekiq (and to be clear, I still do […]
It sucks that in 2026, @digitalocean still doesn’t support IPv6 for droplets built via images.
Ruby 4.0 warning: it looks like a GC change in 4.0 means Sidekiq may leak memory on every job failure. v8.1.6 will be released tomorrow with a workaround. https://github.com/sidekiq/sidekiq/issues/7006
Towards a safer Timeout API in Ruby. https://beautifulruby.com/code/tcp-user-timeout It's a bit of a blunt solution, some sockets may want a 0.1s timeout while others want a 10s timeout. I think a Fiber-local Context API (like Go's but not manually passed around) might be another interesting […]
ActiveJob just added support for additional attributes on jobs. I think long term that could be a bad idea. The power of jobs is that the only state they have is the job arguments, making them easier to test. Sidekiq provides middleware to set up orthogonal concerns which shouldn’t explicitly be […]
