I will never let 2020 go. The fact the Portland Police have gotten away with basically everything they did in 2020 and the lack of action on it is a huge source of my anger.
The Portland Police Bureau tracks the number of use of force incidents. That information is kept in a large dataset PPB made available on its public dashboard. The one thing the data doesn’t show: who's doing what. >> www.portlandmercury.com/news/anonymo...
Have Portland officials considered another field trip to Vienna to see how they built public housing 80 years ago under a completely different set of rules and ideology?
Median rent as a share of median income of renter households in major U.S. metros, 2010 vs. 2024. Minneapolis is lowest on the list, at 29%, down from 30.4% in 2010. www.artio.so/dataviz/page...
I really considered running, saved up money but ultimately believed there were going to be better people challenging Clark, Zimmerman and Arnold but holy shit was I wrong. These people have no clue how politics work AND they are not offering anything that will make district 4 a better place.
D4 has assumed that Clark and Green will win and Arnold will replace Zimmerman. There's no other reason why the progressive candidates in D4 are so fucking bad. Jeremy guy has well-intentions but no backbone (mayor Keith is doing a good job!) and Jamey copying Betsy Johnson's eyeglasses symbol lmao
This is fucking pathetic. The foundation of democracy is strong public schools for everyone. Would love to have a politician here have the balls enough to propose banning charter, private and homeschooling here.
Virtual charter schools are typically sponsored by smaller, more rural school districts and can require little more from home-schooling families than brief daily check-ins. https://mrf.lu/2SH-0
One of the best posts I've read on here and I'll add that it also strikingly shows how meager and lousy self-proclaimed socialists initiatives are here. It's all baked into making the most changes without actually changing anything fundamental. We don't even have municipal sanitation in Portland!
I feel like living in Oregon, and Portland specifically, gives you a clear view of what Democrats actually stand for because there aren't as many Republicans for them around to assert themselves as in opposition to. Things like: -more funding for police -more incarceration -less social services
Maybe you should tell people Mitch. Why does Eric Zimmerman send me a newsletter every month in the mail with all the bullshit he's done and you don't? To find out what you're doing, I have to either log into this hellhole echo chamber or use my girlfriend's Instagram
i don’t think it gets talked about enough that the Portland Metro Chamber merged with the Working Waterfront Coalition, the latter being a fossil fuel industry trade association working to keep the CEI Hub going for the long haul in Portland.
Remember when all the leftist organizations here made a big deal about the mayor's office having no real power in the new system? It's been incredible watching our trucking CEO mayor run circles around them. Don't forget about re-appointing scummy Michael Jordan as City Admin. to "not rock the boat"
The moment I knew Mitch Green did not have the juice was when he put some statement on social media defending Eric Zimmerman for not speaking out about the possible Trump troop deployment here. Putting out a statement defending your shitty co-worker that destroys your goals is so obviously pathetic
ICYM here are some of Eric Zimmerman's insults to the dozens of people testifying in favor of a universal human & enviro rights screen on the city investment policy, which a) doesn't name countries b) the council already voted to develop. These are outright lies about our (public record) testimony.
All the "Portland is rebounding" stuff is centered around adults. James Beard Market is gonna be great but centered towards adults. The only "kid" thing we have planned is the Steel Bridge skatepark that will take until 2029!!!!! to build and there's a chance they'll mess up the design there too
Hot Take: The biggest taboo subject in Portland that nobody wants to talk about is Portland becoming a community for senior citizens and nobody else.
Peacock's refusal to do anything about the Portland Police Bureau has led us here. Officers suing citizens for insurance payout schemes
There were no railings on either side of the steps, the suit says, and that’s a violation of Portland city code, which requires outside staircases with more than three steps — like the ones at Southwood’s home — to have a handrail. theoregonian.visitlink.me/UkMDDC 📷: Google Maps
JO ANN HARDESTY WAS ABLE TO CREATE PORTLAND STREET RESPONSE AND CUT $15 MILLION FROM THE PORTLAND POLICE BUREAU ON A CONSERVATIVE CITY COUNCIL WITH A BUNCH OF PEOPLE WHO HATED HER GUTS
I can't believe how tame and meek Portland's progressive councilors are with literally everything going on in the world. Is nobody angry? Able to take criticism without immediately conceding bullshit points?
I don't know how anyone who has a soul is on Bluesky. Does everyone enjoy reading long threads about how blowing up a helicopter is a war crime while ignoring everything Israel and the USA have done over the past 2+ years. Imagine if Hind Rajab had been in that helicopter Wesley!!!
Fascinating that the attacking group blurred out the red cross indicating that it’s a medevac bird (you can still tell from the winglets and nose bump that it’s an HH-60M)
