You are not a robot for a political party. You vote to better yourself, not a political party. Political party's do not come before people.

Blue_Jay@zenfloater2.bsky.social

If you voted for a transphobic Democrat next Tuesday, merely because you wanted to do Trump damage,,,, then,,, somebody should just slap your face off your skull for doing that. That was stupid. Not voting would be more honorable and more positive.

I respect what GNOME has contributed to Linux and open source as a whole but they need a leadership change because the GNOME desktop is a mess and the project is too arrogant to fix address it. Feel COSMIC is going to overtake it in a year or so at this rate

Americans are the most propagandized people in the world if a single person believes this

Matt Novak@paleofuture.bsky.social

The New York Times just put out this credulous bullshit that claims Iran is getting ready to attack, citing Trump officials. This is clearly a way for Trump to justify more heavy bombing. Itโ€™s so fucking irresponsible to position it like this.

This legit ruined my day, fuck EA for once again killing a beloved studio I hope they at the very least have the decency to sell the IP to someone who wants it

EA is shutting down BioWare. The next Mass Effect has been canceled: https://www.rpgsite.net/news/21611-bioware-shutting-down-ea-job-cuts-mass-effect-canceled

Yeah I'm good, theres already a limitless amount of games that I'll never scratch the surface of playing them all. Spending 1800 on a console is just plain stupid imo

PikaOS is a distro that has caught my attention as one I'd consider swapping too because a rolling release based on Debian sounds cool. What's holding me back is it feels like one of those projects with a small team and little resources that could get abandoned

Bug fixing and security patches are development and have always took up the majority of maintaining software, it just isn't as glamorous as rolling out new features. Why I am skeptical of a lot of these exciting vibe coded projects coming up, they're cool ideas but will they be maintained?

We thought AI coding agents would accelerate open source development. Ironically, the opposite seems to be happening. Development is slowing down as AI agents uncover mountains of previously undetected bugs and security vulnerabilities.

AI coding tools make everyone a programmer in the same way a calculator makes everyone a mathematician or a iPhone makes you a photographer, useful for a expert but not for a unskilled person Biggest issue is the unskilled flooding repos with pull requests

AI needs regulation, it should be restricted in the arts, it should not be on the consumer desktop, we need regulation for the environment But it doesn't change the fact it is a tool that won't go away and I rather it be open instead of controlled by fascist corporations

This is 100% a sub post to something I saw but I need to say open source does not mean the main branch has to accept contributions. Open source means you can view the source code and edit, fork do whatever. That goes both ways

Just going to say it we should not bastardized everything Linux stands for just to play kernel level anti cheat games. At this rate we will have distros that will require TPM and Secure Boot just for the facade of software compatibility

Curious about the future of LMDE with the release model changing I really hope that they move LMDE to the testing branch of Debian and make it semi rolling

AI coding is apart of software development for better and worse. anything with AI art is a hard pass, anything with forced AI features in apps is a hard pass, anything that I can tell was vibe coded with little to no human input is a hard pass.

Micah@rincewind.run

"I will not touch anything with ai-generated code" is going to mean, in pretty short order, "I will not touch software" this is just functionally what software development is now and it's only going to accelerate from here

So a question to the shitlibs who tell us "Netanyahu is evil not Israel" if and really when Bibi wins reelection are you going to accept Israel is a evil society? Or will you find another excuse so you can pretend a "good" Israel exists?

The original author behind these projects is a pro AI Tech bro, that + MIT license tells me it's a grift. Very tempted to fork this and rewrite it without AI in C++ while licensing it under the GPL/LGPL. ๐Ÿค”

James O'Malley@jamesomalley.co.uk

Holy shit. Someone has decompiled the Adobe suite, rebuilt it in Rust and released it as open source. Either all software is dead or the US copyright laws are about to receive an update. getartcraft.com/apps

First with OnlyOffice and now with Bitwarden playing fast and loose with the GPL a line needs to be drawn. You're either open source or you're not. "Dual licensing" and setting rules on how source code can be used beyond the GPL guidelines is horseshit, time for compliance to be upheld or otherwise

> be vocally anti AI art > call for heavy regulations on AI > Think most vibe coded projects suck > express concerns about open source licensing and AI > Get put on a AI tech bro list because I think Linus Torvalds and Debian using AI in a responsible manner is fine.

For shit like bug testing and finding security vulnerabilities that is one area AI shines and should be used when hacking groups can find AI exploits easier than ever using the same tools. That does not make me a "AI bro" seriously fuck the person who put me on that list

This is how AI should be used inprogramming, skilled programmers using it to assist in the process. Problem is when people who do not know the fundamentals flood repos with their garbage, I compare it to people who cannot do any sort of math without a calculator

Hacker & Security News@hacker.at.thenote.app

โ€˜I use AI to do the things that Iโ€™m bad atโ€™: Linus Torvalds on why it works for him The Linux creator calls vibe coding โ€˜a wonderful way to find joy in programming,โ€™ but not for running Linux development. (Finding bugs is OK.) #hackernews #news

The biggest issue with many of these new gen vibe coders besides not knowing the fundamentals is they're not bringing anything new to the table or improving projects but instead are copying and making half assed versions of already existing like those Craft guys. There's no skill involved

In my middle school's computer lap a computer was using Ubuntu 8.04 and I always liked using it because it was different. A little later I got the 10.4 dvd through ship it to use on a old laptop which I used that. When I fully abandoned Windows in 2020 I used Fedora and later CachyOS to this day

28 years ago, I learned about this amazing thing called Linux. I immediately drove down to Best Buy and bought a boxed set of Red Hat 5.0. Probably the best $50 I've ever spent! What was your first Linux distro? #Linux #RedHat #Nostalgia

These slop coded projects are going to hurt the reputation of open source, there is very little skill or artistry in these apps, they don't actually advance open source development and projects Instead they are bug ridden rip offs that fool people that they're MS Office/Adobe 1/2

I'm at the point of running out of sympathy for people who know Windows is shit, constantly crashes out about Windows being shit but refuses to at least try Linux. Linux is literally easier to download than Windows 11, not rocket science to flash a USB and at least try Mint or something

Something not talked about much for why I think some are afraid of switching off Windows is because their computer comes with it +Office 365 trial and switching would seem like "lost value"

I think my hottest Linux take on Bluesky is I'm not a fan of immutable. I understand why people do but it doesn't work with what i want to do and at times it does not feel fully matured yet. Still a promising development but I'll pass for now

Copyright laws will not have to be rewritten because this is just patently illegal, it has never been legal to look at copyrighted code to build new apps This is slop btw, can we focus on worthwhile projects like WINE instead
