Is failure really a bad thing in RPGs? 🙅
@rockpapershotgun.bsky.social explores how failure, player agency and trust shape storytelling in games, with insights from Citizen Sleeper creator Gareth Damian Martin and other acclaimed RPG developers.
i probably should read more fiction. i was a big fiction reader as kid, but nowadays it's mostly nonfiction or theory... i've been working through house of leaves for like 2 years now i'm at the point where i might just start over so it's fresher
started reading words are my matter by ursula k le guin this morning, which is a little embarrassing since the only le guin i've ever read is omelas, but i find her very intelligent and i think she has interesting things to say about fiction
to help smooth things over a bit i have put my entire itch library on same for the next *year*. consider me very, very available for freelance work. if you need playbooks, stretch goal content, anything, i'm your girl. itch.io/s/204730/fin...
not exactly how i wanted to end my year, but i'll be looking for new work starting mid-November. if you're looking for a writer, level or game designer with a decade of experience in videogames & tabletop rpgs, get in touch

I just wrote a paranormal story in the form of a fictional forum thread!
A young woman discovers a video captured from inside a recurring dream.

it's thematically relevant that this one is rly hard to write ok. like trust me at the end of the day it's actually good that 100,000 words in we're still in act 1
i've heard two different streamers say incident at galley house is adapted from "an old text-based mystery game". guys text based games did not go extinct in 1990 galley house is an adaption of a game from 2025 😭
If you’ve ever wanted to see someone go through like four different stages of I’m Not Owned! in a single ill-advised statement, probably not going to find better than this.
finished incident at galley house last night. as someone who really loved type help, i strongly recommend it - the old stuff is well executed and the new stuff is fantastic
i will say that there's one scene they edited to be considerably less effective/scary than in the original, which i think is due to the limitations of the format vs the original text-only game. but that's a minor quibble, it's still really good
A side project I've been working on—a curated link page of important essays on video game narrative—is now live. You can read about it on my blog: azhdarchid.com/the-game-nar...
Or you can go straight to the dedicated website: www.gamenarrativereader.org

i'm not that far into forbidden solitaire but i will say the concept of an rpg where you overcome challenges by playing solitaire is so beautiful to a guy like me
i liked this a lot the first time i read it, but i like it even more now that ive seen it get reposted to r/gamedev and having made a bunch of Marketing Baby Geniuses there very upset
Please show Rocket Adrift some love and check out the steam page for SHE now that it's up.
They missed out on a lot of exposure when the page wasn't live and it's one of the coolest games we featured in the Story-Rich Showcase.
The trailer alone is a masterclass of what you can do in 30 seconds...
it's actually so sad hundred line has turned me into a "noooooo it gets good after the first 30 hours" guy but like. if you find those first hundred days grating i Get it. you gotta hang in there
i feel like i'm too reasonable about my other takes. i don't like open worlds but i get why people do. i don't like 100 hour games unless they're good. i'll talk a big game about how baldurs gate 3 is spineless until it's time to play baldurs gate 3 and then its me and the bestieeeee
💭 🎬 L'artiste franco-iranienne Marjane Satrapi, qui s'est fait mondialement connaître avec la bande dessinée et le film "Persepolis", est décédée à l'âge de 56 ans, a annoncé son entourage jeudi à l'AFP.
Q: The demand was to get ICE and CBP out. To replace Bovino with Tom Homan...do you think that's a satisfactory change?
TIM WALZ: "I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt. ...My hope is that Tom Homan is different...that he is a true law enforcement professional."
Five creators who worked on Yazeba's Bed & Breakfast have spent the past year fighting a legal battle against Possum Creek Games and Steve Jackson Games. Neither the tabletop RPG nor their working relationships survived the fallout.
