I haven't run this yet (about to, on Wednesday) but it seems fantastic. A Hands-On Activity for Introducing Gauss’s Law pubs.aip.org/aapt/pte/art...

I'm not sure if Ken Paxton heard these questions about the pedophile he pardoned, so everyone in Texas should keep asking Paxton about the pedophile he pardoned, and maybe ask other Republicans about the pedophile Paxton pardoned and see if local media cares about the pedophile Paxton pardoned and
Q: Why did you give a plea deal to a child sex predator? Do you have anything to say about that? Paxton: (No response.) Q: Should he be registered as a sex offender in Texas? Paxton: (No response.) Q: What do you have to say to the victim of Adam Hoffman? Paxton: (No response.)
If you are looking to support excellent journalism while getting the insights of one of the sharpest political commentators in the business -- and one where that commentary derives from, rather than drives, coverage -- please consider joining Talking Points Memo. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/ka-pow
There is so so much wrong with journalism today, much of it lying at the feet of an unsustainable business model. TPM is journalism done right, with a clear-eyed and practical business model that allows them the necessary independence. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/ka-pow
apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap26022... The image is cool, too, but today's Astronomy Picture of the Day title -- "Shadows of a Martian Robot" -- is amazing. It sounds like a noir-pulp treatment of the psychological torment of a veteran of the War of the Worlds.
@talkingpointsmemo.com I don't want to be overly negative, but I'm not a fan of the apparent redesign of the front page and site. It's aggressively unaesthetic.
@puzzmo.com The website says "Gift a Subscription for $29". Clicking the button leads to a checkout that lists the price as $39. Which is it?
@ap-trevor.bsky.social Any comment about the capitulation by College Board and retreat from its commitment to lifting up ALL students? Is the AP Program specifically planning on following the corporate concession? www.reuters.com/legal/govern...

I'm not generally a fan of the Big Blue Boy Scout, but these day are making me reconsider.
Do we still need stories about an aspirational immigrant who's so devoted to his adopted country that he regularly puts himself in danger to help even those who fear and distrust him, and who's primary antagonist is an egotistical tech billionaire? Yes, fucking obviously. You numpties.

Excellent resource. We too often leave people in the weeds and then scoff when they don't understand. Tariff policy sounds like it is complicated but this boils it down nicely.
If you want to download this PDF to print a copy for your normie friend who needs a basic explainer, it's here: trumpstariffsexplained.com/tariffsexpla...

This is a very important point. Breathlessly vague headlines and summaries of these executive orders created for the executive powers it does not have. This kind of press contributed to authoritarian regime change.
It's critical for everyone to remember what an Executive Order is. It is the President communicating orders to members of the executive branch. Policies to pursue, actions to take, etc. They are not laws. They are not close to being laws. They are formalized memos to employees. That's all.

Everyone should know that Social Security is massively efficient. It's the most efficient program we have. Its overhead is only 0.5%. Cutting Social Security staff will do nothing to improve that and only result in problems with people getting the payments they are legally owed.
New: Elon Musk’s team has descended on an already understaffed Social Security Administration, which now faces further workforce cuts and closures of vital local offices. The consequences could be significant for millions of the most vulnerable Americans. www.propublica.org/article/doge...

White House defying court orders, persisting with illegal action, and usurping Congress’ power of the purse, which would effectively end checks and balances. If that’s not a Constitutional crisis, what is? Sorry, media, but like climate change, Constitutional crisis is out of “some say” territory.
We aren’t quite to the point of a direct and explicit defiance of the courts by the Trump admin. But the doomsday clock on our democracy ticks forward with this declaration from a federal judge. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/10/u...

Every dollar Musk claims to have "discovered being stolen" is detailed on usaspending.gov which was created by Senators Cobern, McCain, Carper, and Obama and was signed into law by G.W. Bush in 2006. There is NOTHING DOGE is uncovering that wasn't available for public scrutiny for nearly 2 decades.
