Please don’t judge disabled people for staying in abusive relationships. You can’t imagine the terror of being financially and/or physically dependent on someone for survival. There’s no one to step in and rescue us. This is why disabled people have higher rates of abuse. We can’t escape.

If I had known what a difference an N95 and air purifier could make in my overall health, I would have used them before Covid. A respirator keeps me from getting sicker. An air purifier reduces allergies, dust and MCAS symptoms. We should want these tools in public spaces.

He sexually assaulted and killed a woman. He choked and beat another one. She survived but is disabled for life. He was assessed as having a “moderate to high” risk of reoffending…yet he’s attending classes at McGill. He’s allegedly on dating apps in violation of his day pass. What are we doing?

If your expectations of healthcare comes from TV shows like House & Grey’s Anatomy - you’re in for a real shock. The reality of most complex chronic illness would play out like a horror film than a McDreamy laden drama. It’s medical propaganda and not at all representative of what we experience.

Disabled people need more support. Most ableds believe if you get “sick enough” help will magically appear. That if you get worse, more help will arrive. It doesn’t work like that. Unless you have family or deep pockets, you are on your own. Abuse is rampant. Suffering is inevitable.

If this country was truly “pro-life,” we would have Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, gun reform, universal child care, and a living wage. And we certainly wouldn't have public executions. The right-wing agenda isn’t about “life.” It's about cruelty.
