April event will be a journal club focussed on whole cell simulations. When: Thursday April 16th from 3pm. Where: Rooms 422/423 in Computing Science (Sir Alwyn Williams Building).
The topic has been a hot topic recently with some excitement about attempts to simulate all the different processes going on in a minimal bacterial cell. We thought it'd be fun to get together and discuss the idea, and try to make sense of the recent work.
The recent paper is Thornburg et al. "Bringing the genetically minimal cell to life on a computer in 4D" published in Cell (lnkd.in/gANEcwP2). It is a complex paper that uses a huge variety of computational methods for the simulation. Take a look and come with questions and ideas
Start 2026 with deep learning and agentic AI analysis of single-cell RNAseq data. Date and Time: Friday 30th January 2026 at 3.30pm. Place: School of Computing Science, Sir Alwyn Williams Building, Room 423/424.
Talk 1: Multi-agent AI enables evidence-based cell annotation in single-cell transcriptomics Dr Parashar Dhapola, Co-founder and CEO of Nygen Analytics, Lund, Sweden. www.nygen.io
Talk 2: Deciphering complex biological systems using AI - from generative models to language models Dr Cen Wan (Senior Lecturer in Bioinformatics, School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences, Birkbeck College, University of London)
Last week we hosted the 2nd CompBio Hackathon! Participants picked one of 4 projects before implementing solutions across 3 days. It was great to see those interdisciplinary collaborations! Thanks to the Centre for Data Science and AI, @uofglasgow.bsky.social and MVLS NERD for providing the funding.
There's still time to sign up for our Writing Retreat this week! 22/05, 9:00-13:00 ARC 237AB Sign up here: tinyurl.com/wos25compbio More info: glasgow-compbio.github.io/events/20250... #writing #wos25 #apr #compbio

Excited to confirm the details of our March event. We are chatting metagenomics with Umer Ijaz @uofgengineering.bsky.social Andrew Free @edinburghuni.bsky.social and Hannah Lepper. 31st of March Maths&Stats Lecture Theatre
Save the date as we are back for our 5th!!! CompBio conference. This September, 15th and 16th, @uofgarc.bsky.social. More details to follow soon! #compbio #cbc25
Thanks for attending our #variants event on Monday. We had a great turnout at the wonderful ARC, with two brilliant speakers! @jmarshlab.bsky.social highlighted the importance of well-trained variant effect models, while @ailithewing.bsky.social revealed the impact of mutational events in HGSOC.
Our next monthly event will focus on Variants with two exciting speakers from @edinburgh-uni.bsky.social @ailithewing.bsky.social and @jmarshlab.bsky.social 🗓️ February 17th, 3-5pm 🏠 237B, University of Glasgow Advanced Research Centre #compbio #variants
Still time to send us an abstract if you would like to lead one of our 2025 CompBio Hackathon projects!
Hello world! Following the success of our 2024 Hackathon, we would like to bring you another opportunity to drive forward exciting science! Call for projects is now open and we cannot wait to hear from you. Send us a project abstract by 18th of December. #compbio #science #hackathon
Join us for a bit of holiday cheer at the annual CompBio Xmas quiz. December 11th, from 4:30 @uofgcompsci.bsky.social 422/423. 🎄🎅
You are up to date.
