I’ve just finished delivering a 15-hour postgraduate course on the physical foundations and contemporary changes of #climate. Download all slides from: module 1 👉 www.researchgate.net/publication/... module 2 👉 www.researchgate.net/publication/...
With the seventh release of the VISIR-2 ship weather routing model, we tackle topics much beloved by our users and developers: zenodo.org/records/2301...
Capturing system complexity in maritime decarbonization: a multilayer modeling perspective doi.org/10.1088/1748... via @ioppublishing.bsky.social
Abstract submission is now open for 2026's @egu.eu General Assembly Session AS 4.12 "Maritime Transport: from Weather Routing to Climate Impacts" meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU26/sessio...
Our @egu.eu 2025 General Assembly poster on the Green Shipping corridor between Shanghai and Los Angeles is now available at dx.doi.org/10.13140/RG..... Using the VISIR-2 model, we could assess the role of both ocean currents and waves (with dir.) on potential CO2 savings from route optimisation.
🎡 ✨🚢 Next week, at EGU-2025, I will be co-chairing a session on shipping-related emissions. The session will feature contributions on a range of topics, including emission inventories, radiative impacts, in-situ measurements, weather routing, and agentic AI. More at 👉 lnkd.in/dyYwiN-v @cjsmith.be
Just one month left to submit your abstract for the EGU-2025 conference, session AS3.15: "Environmental Impacts of Shipping" which I will be co-chairing alongside @cjsmith.be. Don’t miss the chance to contribute! 👉 read session's aim and scope: meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/sessio...
Our session has been merged with AS3.30. We will have oral presentations (co-chaired with @cjsmith.be), as well as virtual and on-site posters, all scheduled for Wednesday, April 30th. Find more on meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/sessio...
Based on recent user feedback, we have further enhanced the usability of the VISIR-2 ship weather routing model and resolved a few rare bugs that occurred in specific scenarios. 👉 Download the latest VISIR-2 version (v5) here: lnkd.in/emHX-PRf
The installation and usage of the open-source VISIR-2 ship weather routing system, featuring an algorithm for least-CO₂ routes, are now documented in a 7-min video tutorial: www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI5C... #shipping #decarbonisation #metocean #Python #openSource
In 2024, we witnessed a perfect storm of both anthropogenic and natural factors driving exceptional planetary warming. If you do research on shipping decarbonisation or the radiative balance of the planet, please submit an abstract to the EGU Session AS.3.15, 👉 lnkd.in/ddRWFXze
Both GHG and non-GHG emissions from shipping play a significant role in atmospheric radiation transfer. Together with @cjsmith.be we will have a session at the upcoming @eurogeosciences.bsky.social 2025 conference. Submit an abstract till Jan.15th! 👉 meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU25/sessio...
The v4 release of the VISIR-2 ship routing model brings new functionalities and resolves a bug. Details are highlighted in the infographic below. 👉 DOWNLOAD FROM doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.8305526
My first BlueSky post to celebrate this year's major achievement by my team: the publication of the VISIR-2 paper in Geoscientific Model Development 🌊📄: an open-source, Python-coded ship routing model for maritime research and applications. Read more here: gmd.copernicus.org/articles/17/...
