I too was initially bothered by all of the “pet death” posts that made me sad. Now, as a pet owner, I actually think it’s beautiful. Stranger on the Internet, shouting into the void in grief: I hear your pain. I’m holding space for you and may we all be blessed with the love only a pet can give!

Apropos of my previous post… cold weather people: I just discovered something and want to know if it’s a “thing”. My jacket fell into the footwell of my car while driving so when I put it on it had been warmed by the car heat. Is this a thing? Do people do this on purpose? It was amazing!

Wait… so I always thought the Black Dahlia murder was some great unsolved mystery. They had a PTSD suffering, ex boyfriend who lied about knowing her and they let him go? That’s like crime-drama 101, he’s the guy!

Teenager-the-older gets up to help celebrate teenager-the-younger’s birthday. After enjoying some birthday cinnamon rolls, she declares “I’m going back to bed, wake me up at noon”. Perfect Thanksgiving vibes 😂

Reposting because I can figure out how to bookmark, but lots of hash functions mentioned and hash functions are fun!

Does anyone have opinions on non-cryptographic hashes that are relatively simple, can be done streaming (don't know the length apriori), have good avalanche characteristics, and produce a 64-bit output? Currently using fnv1a64 for postcard-rpc schema hashing, wondering if there's something better.
