Prone to wearing colourful clothing.
Lover of bright & shiny anachronistic objects.
Reader of medieval law.
I might not read all of your posts, but I will ❤️ pics of your pets.
It's municipal voting day in Ontario! The decisions made at a local level are the ones that impact us most, but voter turnout is usually pretty low (around here). Find out who's running and vote for the person who best aligns with how you want your community to be.
Things I only just learnt #3,217:
Rather than a Sunday or a Monday, the Republic of Maldives starts their week on a Friday!
That alone means the Maldives may suck.
In “some technology is quite cool”news, all of Denmark's runestones are getting 3D-scanned! The stones date from about 600-1100 CE. Previous scans in Denmark revealed enormous amounts of information about the Jelling and Ravnunge-Tue Stones.

So I just did me some talking to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done
Sleeping on the job
Oh
Raindrops are falling on my head
They keep falling
But there's one thing I know

Seven weeks ago, I placed an order for linen shirts with my itinerant tailors. This morning that order arrived. And I'm in the office today, like a chump!

As a researcher, I can't really emphasise enough that the main thing LLMs have done is significantly slow me down and add cognitive burden. I'm just *tired* of every aspect of this trend at this point.

I currently have the right to live and work visa-free in 35 countries (Canada, EU, UK & a few others). Yet I live and work within 100km of where I was born. I likely won't do anything about it, but I do find this worthy of some thought, as it doesn't feel as being very 21st century of me.
Canadian buoy drifts across Atlantic, washes up on shore of Irish island - Officials in northwestern Ireland say they’re working to recover a large Canadian buoy that floated across the Atlantic Ocean and washed up on a coastal island.
I am a man of modest delights. And so on Monday, at fifty-four years of age, I had a valet park my car for the first time in my life. A 2012 VW, my car is neither fancy nor new. But I took some pleasure and pride when he thanked me for driving a manual transmission.
Today's cufflinks are new to me; their last owner wasn't someone I knew particularly well, but for whom I had enormous respect. His was a titan in his industry, and also built a loving home that nourished one of my favourite people. He was a good man, with good taste in cufflinks.
Twenty-four years is a long time. It's longer than anything else I've ever been a part of. I haven't held a job that long, or even lived in one place that long. It's almost half of my life, so far. And while it may not be all fun & games all the time, it's who & where I choose to be.
What I want
You've got
It might be hard to handle
But like a flame that burns the candle
The candle feeds the flame
What I've got
Full stock
Of thoughts & dreams that scatter
You pull them all together
You make my dreams come true
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh-ooh

Simplicity can look like many things.
Like this.
But only for a minute.
For as long as the golden leaves cling to the trees.
For as long as the sun lingers in that singular piece of azure sky.
It never lasts as long as we’d like.
So we hold on.
Tightly.

I complained to the City that they enclosed my voting info in an envelope addressed to my tenant. As he's under no obligation to tell me, it's a great way to suppress votes and disengage voters.
She said it's a cost savings.
LOVELY.
(She also tried to deflect and put onus on me...nope)
Well, happy Charles Darwin is “very poorly today & very stupid & hate[s] everybody & everything” to all who celebrate, because he wrote those words in a letter to his friend (and author of Principles of Geology) Charles Lyell 161 years ago today
Speaking of awesome music, I'm winding my way through some of my favorite 80's Canadian synth-pop bands (a favorite sub-genre given that I had free access to Canadian radio which was WAY better than the local stuff) and stumbled upon Rational Youth, who I haven't listened to since the last century.
I know
Beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet
I know we'll meet
Beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we will be
Beyond the sea
And never again
I'll go sailing
No more sailing...

I see the crystal raindrops fall
And the beauty of it all
Is when the sun comes shining through
To make those rainbows in my mind
When I think of you sometime
And I wanna spend some time with you
Just the two of us
We can make it if we try
Just the two of us
You and I
