Storm Boelo is set to bring strong winds and disruption this weekend. Save these emergency contacts now, so you have them if you lose power or internet access. Share with friends, family and neighbours, and check in on anyone who may need support.

Cllr Áine Groogan says she is "absolutely horrified" by "a deliberate act of vandalism". Cllr Brian Smyth is "disgusted" and is working with Belfast City Council on a recovery plan for the site. Please back the volunteers who feed their neighbours when they launch their fundraiser. 💚 2/2

The govt itself has admitted Jackdaw won't bring down energy bills or create many jobs. So I asked the PM: does Labour disagree with the overwhelming scientific consensus that fossil fuels must stay in the ground? Or was lobbying from the oil and gas lobby simply too difficult to ignore?

Officials have flagged 73 wards in Northern Ireland as red no go areas for asylum housing. Mal O'Hara tells Talkback why it is totally unacceptable for racists and paramilitaries to create no go areas and what needs to be done about it.

“You can’t sell hope on stage and approve drilling in the office. Greens across these islands are calling this a betrayal of the next generation, and they’re right. Hope isn’t a slogan, it’s a decision, and this was the wrong one.” - Mal O’Hara, GPNI Party Leader

This puts Andy Burnham’s decision on the Jackdaw oilfield in its proper context. 😡

The chance to keep global warming below 1.5°C with no overshoot is gone. But urgent action can still limit the overshoot and bring warming back to 1.5°C by 2100. Current policies, however, put the 🌎 on course for up to 2.8°C this century. New #EmissionsGap Report: https://ow.ly/SNHX50ZZz8l

Greens have a plan for failing water companies like Thames Water. Special administration. Public ownership. Zero compensation for shareholders. When will Labour end the rip off?

The Govt claiming we must drill more fossil fuels so we can use the tax revenues to fund the green transition is about as logical as a doctor telling you to smoke 2 packs a day to raise the money for your lung transplant You don’t put out a fire by pouring on more fuel 🔥#Jackdaw

Mal O'Hara, Green Party Leader: “Labour have approved a gas field that, by the operator's own figures, would supply just 2% of UK gas demand. That will do little for the cold homes I see across Northern Ireland. 1/2

Today MLAs vote on a Bill to give children on free school meals a payment in the holidays, and one change could decide when families actually see it. The DUP Education Minister wants to remove the rule that says payments must start by the next school break. 1/5

These payments stopped in 2023, and the Trussell Trust reported that food parcels jumped 49 percent that summer. The sponsor thinks the scheme would cost around 21 million pounds a year. Families deserve to hear whether our leaders will find that money. 4/5

Without that rule, the start date would be set later by the Department. The Assembly would have to approve it, but nobody would have to hurry, and a parent cannot plan a food shop around a date that does not exist. 2/5

Another change, from the Education Committee Chair, says the payment should never be less than the price of a school meal. So the test for every party is simple: will you vote for a clear start date and a payment that buys a proper meal? 3/5

Having written off 4 years of carbon tax revenue (and no indication yet how that hole will be filled) the Tanaiste spends a section of his speech talking about how important energy transition is to his Government. But what the the measures he is actually announcing?

None of this happened by accident. Drumcree is a symptom of a broken system, a political process that was never built to actually deal with our past. Nearly thirty years on, we still have no agreed way of resolving exactly this kind of entrenched dispute. 3/4

Peace was hard won here, and it's far easier to destroy than rebuild. We can’t let anyone drag Northern Ireland back to the politics of the past, and we won't stop pushing for mediation, reform and a process that actually works for everyone. 4/4

The Orange Order deserves a principled way out too, one that doesn't depend on forcing a route through by physical force. Real resolution means both communities can live with the outcome, not one side simply winning. 2/4

Drumcree isn't a one-off crisis. It's a symptom of a political system that finds it easier to manage division than resolve it, and mediation has to be led by people equipped to find compromise, not by politicians or institutions that have already proven they can't. 3/4

Green Party Belfast City Council Group Leader Brian Smyth said: "We need mediators with no stake in our politics, but real experience resolving conflicts every bit as entrenched as ours. Outside parties need to step back and let both sides actually talk. 2/4

Thank you all for your support over these difficult few weeks, we won’t let the wreckers destroy what we've built. So let's continue that momentum, let's get out and get our 6th MP, let's get @zackpolanski.bsky.social elected!

Independent mediation now. Green Party Deputy Leader Lesley Veronica said: "What we have seen at Drumcree is a failure of politics, a failure of process, and most importantly, a failure to properly listen to the people who have lived with the consequences of this dispute for decades. 1/6

Drumcree is a symptom of a bigger problem. Nearly three decades into peace, we have still never agreed a comprehensive mechanism for dealing with our past. Until we do, the same flashpoints will keep reopening, again and again. 5/6

Northern Ireland deserves better than repeatedly returning to the unresolved fights of the 1990s. We need independent mediation, institutions that function, and honesty about our shared past. Nothing less will stop us coming back here again." 6/6

Nearly thirty years after the Good Friday Agreement, we should not be reopening the same wounds; we should build on the peace process and deliver institutional change that protects people in a settlement based on human rights and justice for all.” 2/6

Lough Neagh is part of our shared home. Today we stood with others at Stormont to call for clean water and urgent action to protect one of our most important natural resources. Toxic algae cannot be allowed to become normal. 1/2

We need real action on pollution, proper investment in our water infrastructure, and environmental protections that are enforced. Every delay makes restoring Lough Neagh harder. Save Lough Neagh 💚 2/2

“Today, the Parades Commission allowed a restricted parade down the Garvaghy Road, first time in almost 30 years. This is not a moment for triumphalism, but responsibility. We owe the next generation a broken cycle, not a repeated one.” 1/2

“This ruling followed a technicality, not a verdict on the merits. Communities deserve transparency. Sunday’s peace is fragile. Holding it is on all of us, Sunday and every day after.” - Cllr Brian Smyth, Group Leader, Belfast City Council 2/2

We are told to be resilient, while the things that make resilience possible get quietly taken away. Suicide prevention has to mean more than a crisis line, though crisis lines save lives and you should never hesitate to use one. 2/4
