NZ attempted to reopen a high seas fishing ground to destructive bottom trawling - despite scientific evidence proving it was highly biodiverse. This govt is a mouthpiece for the fishing industry. We need a ban on bottom trawling on seamounts. newsroom.co.nz/2026/10/16/b...

We all know nature is facing serious threats. Yet the Luxon Government's response to the climate and biodiversity crises for three years has been to add fuel to the fire. @russelnorman.bsky.social has attempted the Herculean task of listing each of the unrelenting attacks on the environment.
The idea is that people around Aotearoa sign a pledge telling political leaders that they want to vote for the environment. It asks that political parties commit to: • Protect & Restore Nature • Make Polluters Pay • Sustainable Food Production • Clean Energy & Transport
The initiative comes off the back of the Nature-Positive Policy Roadmap that we released earlier this year with WWF and Forest & Bird. Check out the pledge here: voteforourenvironment.good.do/voteforouren...

Good news! The LNG terminal is off the table for this term of Government. The “reality has bitten that clean energy is a hell of a lot cheaper than super-expensive and completely unreliable imported fossil gas”. Russel Norman, Greenpeace Aotearoa
Our campaign to end offshore oil and gas exploration permits won in 2018. This created an inflection point in the NZ energy system. In spite of culture war fairy tales of Nat/Act/NZF our future is clean energy. Reality has clean energy bent. www.thepost.co.nz/business/361...

The Govt finally did it. The legal guardrails are gone. We are heading back to a bygone era of smokestacks pumping toxins into our air & pollution pipes contaminating our water. They've written these laws with and for the polluters & the pillagers. And we are going to be the ones who pay for it.
