You Can See Everything (Nathan Fielder's movie about Elizabeth Holmes) was soooo great! There's not much I can say about it without revealing spoilers, but the one comment I CAN make is that even the score was incredible and was a huge part of turning it from a straight-up documentary into a *film*.

One of my (many) Roman empires is just how frequently I bump into art & culture that oozes metamodern sensibility. This one from the NYT review of Cameron Winter’s Live @ Carnegie Hall album. Paging @gregdember.bsky.social!
Here is a video conversation I hosted with three authors of metamodern fiction: Tope Folarin, Daniel L. Garner and Peter Clarke. Each in his own way combines a playful experimentalism with a caring stance towards their characters. youtu.be/kmM67SbhXEI
This 4-session exploration of metamodernism and the music of Sufjan Stevens begins this Sunday and I am one of the co-leaders of it. Link to more details in the first comment. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MFv...

For 4 Sundays in September, I will be co-leading an online mini-course / group exploration of Sufjan Stevens and metamodernism, inspired by the multi-author volume My Impossible Soul: The Metamodern Music of Sufjan Stevens. philosophyportal.online/my-impossibl...
The Philosophy Portal is a really interesting online platform where academics, para-academics and other kinds of intellectuals meet and cross-pollinate. These sessions will be led by authors Tom Drayton (@miserchristmas.bsky.social), Sam Wan and myself, hosted by PhiloPortal director Cadell Last.

As a Yale alum, I truly expected Yale to show more courage against the MAGA administration than it has so far. Here's hoping for a turn around!
Stand Up for Yale, a group representing thousands of #Yale alums condemns the Trump administration investigation and warns against settlement, calls on the university to defend its students, its independence, its lawful commitment to an inclusive academic community. More at www.standupforyale.org
In other words – and I'm not the first to say this but it bears emphasizing – The Swamp.
I think the reason the Reflecting Pool is getting so much reaction is because it's a tangible metaphor for all the failures of this regime. It's a physical manifestation of toxicity, vanity, cost, error, and assigning blame.
Here's me talking about metamodernism primarily to a Greek audience on the fabulous Ideonio podcast. I am their first non-Greek guest and you can see on the youtube page that the comments are all in Greek! The hosts were really exuberant and sharp at the same time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnSu...

Listen to your Spidey Sense! Don’t fall for the grift! In this excellent video essay, Douglas Rushkoff gives an account of an AI publishing scandal that he got tangled up in and humbly examines his own tendencies that initially led him into supporting it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DP3f...
On the substance El-Sayed is right, but to be fair, I think he's the one who pivots to a talking point—ducking Cain's question—and it only looks strong to our side. To anyone who needs convincing, it would have been stronger for El-Sayed to directly address Cain's provocations about immigration.
Will Cain repeatedly refuses to answer Abdul El-Sayed's question, "Do you pump your own gas?" (Note Cain desperately trying to pivot the conversation back to immigration, but El-Sayed doesn't let it go)

Well this is exciting! I was interviewed about metamodernism on Australia's public broadcast network, the ABC. The host, David Rutledge, was really fun to talk to and I thought he did a great job of guiding and shaping the conversation. www.abc.net.au/listen/progr...
YES! OBAA works as a Left-sympathetic film not by presenting an irrefutable case for Left ideology but by telling a human story about revolutionary Left people, including their flaws and failings. It treats revolutionaries as subjects not representatives. To me, this is metamodern political cinema.
