My comments on the new @nationalacademies.org report on climate change & extreme weather attribution.
The TLDR statement: If anything, the academy understates the strength of the science linking increasingly extreme weather events to climate change:

If Roger didn't like our criticisms of his claims about hurricane-related damages, maybe he should talk to his fellow climate critic #JudithCurry. Here's what she had to say in an email to me:
I'm still not convinced this isn't satire. #JudithCurry now works for the illustrious "Prager University". Here she expounds for them on "The good news about climate change":

#JudithCurry was a key member of the "unlawful" working group tasked by the Trump administration with discrediting the science underlying the EPA endangerment finding (the legal basis for regulating carbon emissions)

If you're a producer for a cable news show, you should have a tight two-minute montage with a sampling of the many times Donald Trump has encouraged political violence, just waiting for the inevitable Republican guest who tries to pretend Democrats are the real problem here.
January of 1933 was the year Adolph Hitler became Chancellor of Germany. Over the next six months, he did many of the same things Trump is doing, but essentially unopposed. In 2025, Americans resolve is stronger as is our Constitution. That makes all the difference! Republicans will fail!
"Mamdani won 9% of 2024 Trump voters ... these NYC people pulled the lever for Trump one year ago, and yesterday, they pulled it for an immigrant Democratic Socialist mayor."
Big takeaway #2 (for future reference): Mamdani is now on the list that includes Hillary Clinton, Ilhan Omar, Nancy Pelosi, and AOC. The GOP's bogymen.
(Thoughts adapted from current POS, "Revenge of the Libs.")
None of it is a distraction. Stop saying it is a distraction. Stop throwing one group or another under the bus because of your own shifting outrage. Let the outrage shift but don't take ANYTHING off the table.
Multiple airports around the country said they won’t display a video in which DHS Sec. Kristi Noem blames Democrats for the government shutdown and related travel delays.
Two groups are calling for new leadership at HHS after Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s actions on substance abuse treatment and mental health medications, among other issues.
More judges speak to the press (the NYT) about what a disaster the Supreme Court (specifically the shadow docket) has been - “incredibly demoralizing & troubling”; a “judicial crisis”; a “slap in the face to district courts.” www.nytimes.com/2025/10/11/u...
By a 13-point margin, Americans say Trump and Republicans in Congress are more to blame for the government shutdown than Democrats.
Top concern for Democrats, independents, and persuadables: stopping cuts to Medicaid and the ACA.

The American people know full well that this is Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans' government shutdown, and say so by a 13-point margin. h/t @navigatorsurvey.bsky.social
Listening to #SistersinLaw and it occurs to me that the conversation about Trump's enemies tends to speak of them as "left-leaning." That is correct, but "centrists" are just as much in the cross-hairs of Trump and his cronies. Maybe "People in America" is a better term.
Daily Beast: The USTA has instructed broadcasters to avoid airing coverage of Trump’s appearance at the US Open over fears of negative crowd reactions.
If Trump doesn't want to get booed in public, he should stay home.

RFK Jr., Pete Hegseth, and other Cabinet nominees assured senators such as Susan Collins that they wouldn’t act on their most controversial opinions.
And yet, they’ve done just that. trib.al/Y3O2MfC

WARREN: Did you tell the head of the CDC that if she refused to sign off on your changes to the childhood vaccine schedule, that she had to resign?
RFK Jr: No. I told her she had to resign because I asked her 'are you a trustworthy person?" and she said no
WARREN: This is not what she has said
Bill Cassidy's line of questioning was clever -- he pressed Kennedy on how he can praise Trump for Operation Warp Speed while at the same time denigrating vaccines.
Here's the beginning of the exchange.
After Cortez Masto asks RFK Jr repeatedly what he's doing to lower costs for seniors and he can't come up with an answer, he resorts to telling her, "I didn't even hear your question"
RFK Jr: I'm not gonna recommend a product for which there's no clinical data. Is that what I should be doing?
WARREN: What you should be doing is honoring your promise you made when you were looking to get confirmed in this job, and that is you promised that you would not take vaccines away
