Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Jason Anderson@jasondcsoccer.bsky.social

Weiler said that Evander's goal was "amazing" and felt that apart from the goal and the assist, DCU had done well in both meetings against him. "When you spend so much money for a player, then of course you can't defend everything" they do.

Sorry, the actual fix is...the owner sells the team to someone who cares about winning, will invest in better training facilities, launch a reserve team, hire real MLS minds to run the sporting side, and stop caring about real estate deals.

Gregory Roche@gregoryroche.bsky.social

The fix is, blow everyone out, hire a CSO, let them hire everyone below them. But literally no one has the appetite for another full teardown.

Kasper isn't really the problem. The problem is: -Levien kept Kasper -Levien hired Weiler -Levien hired the DOCTOR in that order. Three people. All different ideas. All having a say. Hodgepodge team. One common thread. Levien.

It probably won’t really help anything, but getting rid of Dave Kasper should at least streamline some acquisition decisions. Or just make me feel better.

DCU isn't formally eliminated after this 2-0 loss to FC Cincinnati, but they might as well be. One of their most hapless attacking performances of the season against a team that has conceded 71 goals in 2026. Rough, rough stuff.

I'm warm and fuzzy on this so excuse the posts. But how, down 2-0 at home in a must win game, do you look past Ordaz, Peltola, and Castillo to play Stroud as a CAM. -Why buy Ordaz? -Wasn't Peltola one of your best players pre WC? -When has Stroud ever been a CAM?

Marko Pasalic is a 26 year old proven chance creator in MLS who has lost his starting spot in Orlando post WC. He's on $1.6mil/yr. That's not a player DC could have acquired during the summer transfer window?

RFK Refugees Podcast@rfkrefugees.bsky.social

It is 2027... #DCU's biggest need is chance creation just like when it was 2026 and 2025 and 2024...

This is a valid question since Weiler refuses to play him at CB but: 1. Do we trust that Weiler knows his best position? 2. He's literally played CB his whole life until this season. 3. His highest ceiling is surely CB, no? 4. Has he lit it up in MF (and RB) so much that he's def not a CB anymore?

Steven Buckner@sweetbuck.bsky.social

Is Markovic actually a defender at this point? Dude hasn't played there for us since like March (i fully agree that it should have been Ordaz or Avilez instead, though)

Between Griezmann, Ojeda, and Pasalic, Orlando (ORLANDO!) have THREE guys who have hit worldies on DCU in the last season or so. Maybe go get one of those guys for the sprint season? 🤷‍♂️

Gregory Roche@gregoryroche.bsky.social

Wouldn't it be nice to have a player who can just hit a worldie like that out of nothing? DCU have to scrap for literally every chance they get. (And yes, I know Evander is special but so is Griezeman, and Ojeda, and Forsberg, and Messi, and Muller. So every team has one, except DC).

DC, on life support to make the playoffs, at home, in a must win game, bring on a CB cosplaying as a MF for an attacking player. Weiler, what are you saving it for?

Jason Anderson@jasondcsoccer.bsky.social

Markovic for Hopkins is the sub, but Markovic is if anything playing as an actual forward alongside Baribo rather than floating underneath. And as I type that out, an Evander wonderstrike makes it 1-0 Cincy.

This is framed as if this would be a management decision. I think if Weiler decides to come back, it'll be his decision.

rjrndc.bsky.social@rjrndc.bsky.social

Considering DCU has made zero progress under his management, does Weiler continue to coach during the sprint season?

If Jason is implying that Weiler makes questionable position choices for his players I have to question whether Mr. Anderson has watched DCU this year because Weiler is known for playing everyone at their best position at all times.

Jason Anderson@jasondcsoccer.bsky.social

DCU bringing Oscar Avilez into the fray, pushing Hopkins up alongside Baribo. A little confused over how DCU set up after halftime, with Nono staying central while Hopkins was wide right. Not just a natural position thing, but Nono has been so effective attacking from the right. More muted today.

My kid's coach would yell, "CONNECT!" like 100x a game. With the talent deficit DCU operates at and everything being just a grind, simply completing the next pass is THE most important thing you can do and the team just consistently doesn't.

This is why I wasn't full doom and gloom down 0-2. DC are nowhere near out of this. I thought that before the dumb ORL penalty.

Jason Anderson@jasondcsoccer.bsky.social

Orlando's goals are excellent, DCU's defending/choices on the goals are huge problems, but they've also created 2 looks from 6 yards for Baribo, and forced Crépeau into 2 reflex saves at 0-0. Orlando will always give you big looks, and their games aren't really over until you're down 3+

DCU is going to really rue the goal review on that one. Servania aimless ball under no pressure, and Griezmann just has to play 2 quick 1-2s to shed...6? 7? DCU players and create a sitter. Too easy.

I'm sure Wonderwall means something to this fanbase but I don't get it. We win a huge game and 10secs after the whistle we all have to stop cheering so we can sing a slow song from 30yrs ago from a band that has no connection to the area? Why we shushing to get to it? Feels like a buzz kill.

Doyle's talking about StL but it's a drum I've been banging all year for DCU. You saw Avilez on Wed, you're saying he couldn't have been getting 15mins randomly post WC? Same for Castillo. Same for Turner.

Matthew Doyle@mattdoyle.bsky.social

Damet's been great & is going to get my Coach of the Year vote, but he's missed opportunities to rotate guys in for 15 minutes here, 20 minutes there during this streak. Perez & Joyner the most obvious. In MLS it's always on the coach, as much as the CSO, to build depth. bsky.app/profile/jhen...

It's not just DC apparently. Running a club ain't easy (I don't think, maybe it is), but these owners aren't broke and they chose to buy a club. Can't get my head around doing that and then just not caring enough to do it right.

Kevin Morris@socceralt.bsky.social

National soccer media needs to do a better job covering what’s going on in Austin. Entire fan section walks out mid match and it’s absolute crickets out-there. If you’re covering the match and focusing on Nashville’s win or Austin’s loss you are not doing your job.

This was never going to be a win. @mattdoyle.bsky.social brought up MIA's issue on Soccerwise this week. They can't really play Suarez/Messi together because they defend 9v11 but against DC they can because DC don't have any creators. When they can play those two, they will carve you up.

Jason Anderson@jasondcsoccer.bsky.social

Losing 4-0 is bad, but losing 4-0 while Cincinnati & the Red Bulls are winning, & while Columbus is on course to get a draw...tough night for DCU. Could have pulled into a 4-way tie spanning 8th-11th place, but will likely fall to 13th, with a 6-point gap to the red line.

For context, Cavan is just a few months older than Avilez and Castillo and he got limited minutes at the start of the season so them not being ready is not crazy. Also, no 2010 born player is getting more than token minutes in MLS. A number of them are getting big mins in MLSNPro though.

This is a good summation of Castillo. Weiler doesn't seem to want to get him on during a playoff push which I can KINDA get. But someone to get excited about for the sprint season.

Jason Anderson@jasondcsoccer.bsky.social

Kamil Castillo hit the crossbar moments ago, and in general he's looked like an actual option for United in midfield right now rather than a kid with a nebulous future. Good engine, threatening to break lines with the ball at his feet.

Sorry brah, I can't take you seriously as an MLS Cup contender if you: A. Can't take all three points at home against DCU and, B. Let DCU put 3 past you without Baribo or LOUIS

Sorry, Hefti is off. 3 FBs and a Jared Stroud.

Gregory Roche@gregoryroche.bsky.social

So DC has... 4 CBs 4 FBs 2 DMs 1 GK on the pitch right now as they try get a point on the road against the second best team in the League. Just a hilarious soccer club. Don't be shocked if they grab a winner.
