Hi new people! Nice to meet you. I am a Detroit area urban planner, transit advocate, and historic preservation professional. #1 fangirl of the Open Meetings Act. Come for the local government commentary, stay for the everything else (It’s mostly everything else.)

I said this when Metro was considering this bad idea and I’ll say it again: Now that I live in a city where our transit is often constrained by not having enough drivers, it’s *wild* to me that Metro in STL is intentionally choosing to move fewer riders per operator by shifting to single-car trains

dr. meg smith@megsmith.bsky.social

6:00 am is, if anything, more crowded. A one-car with a mechanical was replaced by another one-car. So crowded that it was difficult to even get on the train. Lots of bikes — and now that it’s dark in the morning, it’s important that bikes be able to do their first leg on transit!

Yikes, an 8:00 am single-car train! Accessible seats are occupied, and a guy with a walker is sharing the back of the car with a bicycle. If you see crowding during the single-car pilot, make sure you report it to both Metro and RAISE. bsdstl.org/singlecarsur... tally.so/r/D4rYxj #stl #StLouis

I had to do one more, here is an awesome hardware store cat I met yesterday

there is a dire shortage of cats on the feed. do your civic duty and post a cat

Jimmy has turned this into a bot documenting the tax auction. It’s striking how many of the properties go to people outside of Detroit

4191 CADILLAC Sold at auction for $9,900 to FRANKLIN O DUFF of NORTHVILLE, MI Parcel ID: 19005356. Year built: 1914 Zoned R2 Tax status: TAXABLE Image dates: Jun 09 2022 on left; Jul 01 2026 on right

I thought this was the old Red’s Park-In Bar but the property in question is the house next door. I also didn’t realize Red’s had gotten this renovation away from being a cool old brick bar. I really wish I’d checked that place out when it was open

4450 CENTRAL Sold at auction for $34,000 to YONES S ABDULLA of DETROIT, MI Parcel ID: 18009771. Year built: 1919 Zoned R2 Tax status: TAXABLE Image dates: Oct 08 2020 on left; Aug 12 2026 on right

Oh damn, a quick google to try to turn up a long-ago article I read about the bar turned up the more recent news that it shut down after a fatal shooting in 2021. I know Detroiters like to say the issue is the after hours clubs, but imo the issue is the guns

New mayor in Windsor! I don’t know much about the new guy but Dilkens always seemed like a ding dong

WindsorNewsToday@windsornewstoday.bsky.social

Windsor has a new mayor. Fred Francis is the new mayor elect. Drew Dilkens, the incumbent, has conceded. Other winners in Windsor are: Darcie Renaud in Ward 1, Frazier Fathers in Ward 2, Renaldo Agostino in Ward 4, Angelo Marignani in Ward 7, and Kieran McKenzie in Ward 9.

ALSO I’m pleased to hear Angelo Marignani was reelected, based entirely on the fact that when I individually emailed each member of Windsor’s city council in favor of saving the tunnel bus, he was the only one who wrote me back and his message was nice.

Remember Detroit and Metro Detroit voters: NO on 1 YES on 2 YES MUSEUMS AND ZOO!

Planet Detroit@planetdetroit.org

A new millage for the Wright Museum and Detroit Historical Society and a Detroit Zoo renewal are on the Nov. 3 ballot. Here’s what each would cost. Read BridgeDetroit's report: https://planetdetroit.org/2026/10/detroit-museum-zoo-millages/

As an update this made me so mad I added lighting to our Abdul yard sign so it can also be read at night

Thanks to a post by @ebonyteach.blacksky.app, I finally looked up who is behind the heinous anti-Abdul mailer we just got, Empowering Black Americans PAC. Unsurprisingly it’s AIPAC. But as a bonus they apparently helped Wesley Bell win in my old district in St. Louis. Appalling

As a teenager I went to Taste of Chicago, and that was my first time hearing of the Cheesecake Factory. I thought it was like a factory you could tour and then buy cheesecakes straight from the factory, which is cooler than what it actually is

I have still never been to one! They are not really located in places I hang out. Except for the one in the Hancock Tower, but if I’m in that location I have other things to do

Do any of you do junk journaling? I’m interested in starting. What kinds of things do you use for the adhesive?? Also interested in what kind of journals you all use, although I’m likely to either use something I have or just get whatever random cheap one I think is cute

I have various random “memento from trip that needs to go somewhere,” event wristbands, and “ooooh this is a nice pattern” bits of paper ephemera that would be cute in a junk journal! And then they won’t be kicking around my house, loose

Going to visit my brother in Montana and asking if he can show me the train

The mailers pretend like they’re not AIPAC. In Hamtramck we got ones praising Kamala Harris for her support of Israel. I was so upset at first before Marcus thought to look up who sent them. They were sending these to a majority Muslim town that renamed a street for Palestine.

In moving from Hamtramck to south Oak Park, we have shifted from receiving AIPAC mailers targeting Muslim voters to receiving AIPAC mailers targeting Black voters.

Many ppl don’t even know we have a post office! I’ve seen the topic come up on fb and locals find out for the first time that it exists. It’s waaaay back off 8 Mile and the sign is heavily faded. The sidewalk doesn’t fully go back there. If you don’t know it’s there you wouldn’t stumble across it

A fucking wolverine@ceausescuspeed.run

I moved to Oak Park in 1990 and lived there for many years and I am just now, in this moment, learning that the city's post office is off of 8 Mile. We ALWAYS went to Royal Oak or Ferndale, depending on which direction we were headed. I just assumed it was on Oak Park Blvd. next to city hall!
