I have selected the first batch of what I call my “front porch” reads. I usually try to spend an hour or so every day in the spring, summer, & fall (weather permitting) with a book & a beverage or two. Baseball, mining history, memoir, biography, & translated poetry. Good stuff.

Every book I’ve read by @rboomhower.bsky.social has been excellent. This one is sure to continue this level of praise.

“Don't join the book burners. Don't think you're going to conceal faults by concealing evidence that they ever existed. Don't be afraid to go in your library and read every book.” Dwight D. Eisenhower

Outstanding, Ray! I look forward to reading this.

What started as an article for "Traces" magazine grew into a full-scale biography that is today available from the @unmpress.bsky.social. It was an honor to write about Wallace Terry's remarkable life and times, from the civil rights movement to the Vietnam War. www.unmpress.com/978082637015...

Spent some time on the trails this morning with my eldest daughter. It was great to connect with her, nature, and my own thoughts for a few hours.

I love it when people think they’d be able to legitimately ball with a player like Buechler. Guys like Buechler are closer to name-your-favorite-player’s skill set than we are to his. I love the idea of dropping more names!

Jud Buechler.

I’m excited to finally get to Shann Ray’s novel WHERE BLACKBIRDS FLY. This book has patiently waited on my shelf for me. Everything I’ve read about it suggests that it is going to be a superb read. Published by @univnebpress.bsky.social.

This episode hit me in the nostalgic feels. I remember when playing sandlot games I would call out “I’m Walt Weiss!” as other players called out the names of more popular players. I can’t remember why I had such an affinity for him, but this episode validates my 8 yr old player choices. 😂

This week, a former bash brother who had a big hit on the field in 2026...it's Walt Weiss! Weiss was 1988 AL ROY, won a ring in 1989, and an All Star in 1998. He managed the Rockies and was Atlanta bench coach before taking over this year. Listen: 1988toppspodcast.blogspot.com/2026/06/walt...

If you’re a dude at 15 you have to pick a book to choose what kind of nerd you’re going to be. You can be a Dune nerd or a Tolkien nerd or a William Gibson nerd. This is like picking your starter pokemon
