Happy New Year and happy 125th birthday for Australia - one of the oldest continuous democracies and home to a culture over 40,000 years old. We didn’t have a coat of arms in 1901 but we did have this from 1908 which evolved into the current one.

1. an independent non-partisan electoral commission; 2. Compulsory voting requiring governments to facilitate citizens voting rather than trying to find ways to stop them; and, 3. Preferential voting (or ranked choice as some call it) ensuring more representative outcomes for voters.
