🌟 Planning for the future can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. If you're a parent or carer, or work with a young person aged 14–25 with SEND or additional needs, join us for our Future Ready! Preparing for Adulthood event. 🗓️ 13 Oct 🕕 12-5pm 📍 Hackney Church 1/2

🏫 In Hackney, eight primary schools had to close in the last few years. Plans are underway to repurpose the buildings into spaces that serve the shifting needs of our residents, such as creating 48 new places for children with SEND, and converting two school buildings into much needed new homes.

👶 We’re launching a borough-wide campaign to demand urgent national childcare reform - and we need your help. We want to hear from as many parents as possible about their experience with childcare.

We are reviewing Hackney’s civic twinning agreement with Haifa in Israel. Last night, full council agreed, in principle, to formally consider ending the 1968 agreement as part of a wider review of Hackney's international twinning relationships. We want our global partnerships to reflect our values.

Before any final decision is made, there will be public engagement, consultation with Haifa, and an Equalities Impact Assessment. With a final proposal coming back to full council at a future meeting. Please share your views here: consultation.hackney.gov.uk/chief-execut...

📆 THE HACKNEY MAYOR'S DIARY IS NOW ONLINE Too much government decision making happens behind closed doors. We want Hackney to be different. So - for the very first time - the Mayor of Hackney's diary is public, so you can see who she's meeting and hold her to account.

😍 Great news for families with children with SEND! 48 more specialist school places will open for local children with complex needs in Autumn 2027 🥳 This is part of the expansion of Ickburgh School onto the former Baden Powell Primary School, which recently had to close due to lack of pupils.

👐 This investment couldn’t be more timely, as one in five children in Hackney now need additional SEND support. The new site will make it easier for more Hackney children with SEND to learn and be supported closer to home.

They will also have access to other activities they enjoy, such as all-year round sports ⛹️ or music 🎷. ☕ An exciting new community cafe will allow older children learn valuable life skills as they prepare for adulthood. We’ll share more updates as the plans progress. #Hackney #SEND
