My uncle used to have a German Shepherd who, when he was taken on long walks, insisted on marking his territory even though he was far from home. My uncle was worried that this dog had a behavioural problem, but I think it was just trying to expand his Lebensraum.

Finished “Blood and Iron”, Katya Hoyer’s marvellous account the Second Reich this evening. Following it up with an older and longer treatment by Gordon Craig which is part of the Oxford History of Europe series. I got it for $4 with bonus cuttings from the WaPo dated September 10, 2001 😳.

The escalator at my local D.C. Metro station is out *again*. Is it ever in service? How can one of the world’s oldest pieces of technology be so hard to keep in service?

Feeling a lot of sympathy for all the many smart, intelligent, honest, competent, eloquent, non-evil blonde women of integrity out there. Trump's press secy's are really tarnishing the brand.

The silly TLC series 90 Day Fiancé - The Other Way has been getting sillier and sillier in the last few years, but the couples on the latest series (#8) are the cringiest and most unbearable yet. I think I'm finally going to have to duck out and do something better with my time.

I've been researching the Stockholm Syndrome all day, and I have to admit that I'm beginning to like it.

Boarding the D.C. Metro this morning I followed a woman through the ticket barrier and as I prepared to tap my SmartTrip card on the sensor I saw that after she had passed through the gate she still had $1,038 worth of credit on her card. WTF?

Making a start on this fascinating-looking contemporary account of the trial of the Gang of Four, one of the most significant events in 20th century Chinese history and the event that meant the political page could finally be turned on the act of national self-harm that was the Cultural Revolution.
