Today was so good. Ran my errands, hit the first batch of caramels done. Two hour nap, bestie made a roast chicken with leeks and cream, and I fucking LURV a two-out rally.

My dog is such a piece of shit. He knows he’s not supposed to take the soda cans out of the recycling bin, so he’s poking the bin with his nose. When one falls out because the bin is over full, he’s like “oh, well, cans on the floor are fair game!” and scoops it up. I really need a dumber dog.

I just got a spam text from an Ontario area code that said “my calls aren’t going through to you, did you block me?” and my good sir, if you WERE someone I actually knew and I HAD actually blocked you, do you imagine I would’ve SEEN that text? GTFO.

I woke the kiddo for school, gave her the usual “5 more minutes”, and now the puppy is in her room talking to her and she just yelled for me to come get him because who can go back to sleep with a Pitbull whining at you to get out of bed already? The world is shit, but there is still joy to be had.

The kiddo is in the shower so the dog keeps nosing his way into the bathroom to check on her then bumps the door closed and can’t get back out. My husband has opened the door for him three times now, saying “you’re a dumbass” with increasing annoyance and decreasing affection.

It’s pouring in Portland today, and while I’m grateful for the rain (we really need it), I had to go to the pumpkin farm to buy cider this morning so I’m even more grateful to be back home because hydroplaning on twisty roads is really not fun.

I am at a dog show. So far I have gotten kisses from a Great Dane named Arthur, a bull mastiff named Stitch, and a three month old Bernese Mt. Dog named Trillium. I love today.

I have not been paying attention to the NHL for reasons*, but the stories out of Ottawa last night just tickle me. *racism, sexism, homophobia, the systemic dismissal of sexual assault and assault accusations, and the general prioritization of money over ethics

My kid & I were watching The Golden Girls, the episode where Blanche’s brother comes out. Kid asked “Why was it such a big deal that he was gay?” so I explained homophobia, the AIDS crisis, religious bigotry, and showed her the Gay Funeral Designing Women episode to show how vile people were.* *are

For lunch I am heating up a chicken and mushroom pie I made last month and froze in individual portions and I cannot express how happy I am about it. This is the kind of adulting I’m good at, unfortunately the credit card payment will, as usual, just make it in under the wire.

Seeing Kelly McGillis stripped to the waist giving herself a basin bath in Witness. Which was uncomfortable, given that I was watching the movie in a theatre with my mother.

Who or what was your queer awakening

A baby author on threads has called out Nora Roberts for never giving back to her community or helping younger authors (paraphrased) and everyone should take cover now, before the sirens go off.

I have this. In Wish I Might (a.co/d/0fnoPrDP) the FMC’s best friend gets pregnant in her happy poly relationship (featured in the first book of the series, Wish I May) and has an abortion, which leads to the FMC and MMC reflecting on the abortion she had in college when they were together.

Query: can anybody think of any romances that depict an abortion in a non-judgmental way? Or maybe even at all, other than a mention as tragic backstory?

I’m 52 and I’d rather pull out all my toenails every day for 9 months than be pregnant, but hey, some people are built different. Y’all leave Hillary Swank alone.

I'm annoyed by this political ad re: Marie Glusencamp Perez. There's plenty to say about her, but somehow her opponent thinks that saying "she avoids paying state income tax" when Washington, the state she reps, doesn't HAVE state income tax…now you just think we're stupid.

Three days as director of marketing for a transportation company. I'd applied for a market research position, I was 27 and terrified, and spent those three days literally hiding in the bathroom. My dad was furious when I quit, because the money was excellent, but I could not do that job.

Dear Old Navy, This doesn’t come in my size and that is an affront to my whimsy. Please rectify this situation immediately. Sincerely, A Grown Bitch Who Needs A Fox Hoodie

My toxic trait is not being able to let inaccurate movie quotes go uncorrected. Yeah, I *know* it’s not the point, but if you’re going to all the trouble to quote a movie to *make* a point, the least you can do is be accurate.

The dog is battling a skin infection that we have to eliminate before his neutering later this month, so he’s on antibiotics, steroids, and a topical mouse I have to rub on the affected area (his belly, balls, and anus) once a day. And he’s in a cone to keep him from irritating it. He’s not happy.

I fumbled a hair clip and in trying to catch it accidentally clamped my nipple (stg) so I screamed and after my daughter stopped laughing she asked quite seriously, “why do I find other people’s suffering so delightful?” and I just said “I dunno” because I am not ready to have that talk tonight.

Omg, about a month ago I randomly had the theme song for this show stuck in my head for no reason, just a lingering fragment from the Nick at Nite days. “They’re cousins! Identical cousins all the way!”

The Patty Duke Show is on Amazon Prime! So I was able to see an episode I thought maybe I had imagined. Patty and Cathy Lane run against each other for class President. But there’s a third candidate whose entire campaign speech is “Vote for me.” Hilarious when I was a kid, still hilarious to me now.

Puppy is doing a little better this morning. He climbed up on the counter for the beef scraps, anyway, and that's on brand. But he's still not 100% himself, so I made a vet appointment for tomorrow.
