New blog post, my longest one ever. A full guide on how to use AI as a PL/SQL developer. - No 23ai or Python required - Advanced techniques like tools, structured output, reasoning, and file analysis - Usage demos hartenfeller.dev/blog/real-ai... #oracle #ai #orclAPEX

OpenAI's new Decisions API and TypeSafe's Jev point to a new kind of AI model next to LLMs. They give typed answers with probabilities instead of generated text. That's why UC AI 26.5 adds uc_ai.decide, a PL/SQL API for both #orclAPEX #oracle #oracleAI #PLSQL

Abstract season begins so its the time of the year where I need to think about which topics I want to dive deep into and seem worthy to share. I wanted to do less talks but here I am again with 4 topics. And I bet one conference accepts 2 and another the other 2 :D

If you use uc-local-apex-dev you need one command to get to #orclAPEX 26.2: local-26ai.sh upgrade-apex (takes a few mins but runs without you having to do anything). Run local-26ai.sh shrink-space to remove 26.1 after you validated everything works fine.

I started using Make in my APEX projects to keep the SQLcl, etc. commands in 1 place. There's also a sync script that exports the app before importing and merges the changes with Git β†’imports don't overwrite what others did in App Builder. #orclAPEX hartenfeller.dev/blog/makefil...

hartenfeller.devMake APEXlang Easy: Makefiles and Merge-Safe ImportsHow a makefile turns the SQLcl, Git and dbLinter commands of an APEX project into short make commands, and how a Git-based sync script stops APEXlang imports from overwriting your colleagues' App Buil...

ORDS 26.2.3 via the container image: ERROR: Required variable ORACLE_USER_PWD is missing or empty. Aborting execution. The documentation states ORACLE_PWD is needed not ORACLE_USER_PWD. Also even after setting ORACLE_USER_PWD it doesn refuse to start. #oracle #ords

It's a wrap. Biggest UC AI release ever. Small and big improvements. I will do more learning material about it in the next weeks. BTW: free + open source. #orclAPEX #AI #PLSQL #oracle

I am using a Oracle Free DB as a local dev env. I want to be up to date and try out the new Oracle features. But patching is not supported. So I found my own solution to patch the data dictionary: hartenfeller.dev/blog/patch-o... #orclAPEX #oracle

hartenfeller.devOracle Free image bumps aren't upgrades; how to patch the data dictionary anywayChanging the Oracle Free image tag keeps your data but leaves the data dictionary behind. Learn how to check, and how to patch it.

Currently investigating if Programmatic tool calling (PTC) is feasable in Oracle via UC AI. PTC: LLM does not just call tools, it can write code that calls many tools and processes the responses. Great for big data. Maybe the perfect opportunity to get my hands dirty in MLE.

⚠️️If you have DBs running make sure they are not reachable from the internet (port 1521 is behind the firewall). Oracle sent out notifications about open ports last week.

Dynamic actions are one of the rare things where I feel they could get in the way of coding agents. Execution point is good but a single JS block calling set values, hides, refreshes etc. is probably much easier to maintain for LLMs (and easier to read for me in .apx) #orclAPEX

Hot take/opinionated: With the help of AI, creating SQL migration scripts is as easy as ever: claude check the commit history since last tag, create a migration script, test it with a local DB. I don't need Liquibase, SQLcl Projects, etc. (Only works if you work file based)

Coding agents write a lot of PL/SQL, but is it good PL/SQL? I wrote up how I hand #dbLinter 's CLI to Claude Code and make a clean lint report part of "done". Stay in control in the age of AI-generated code. πŸ‘‡ #orclAPEX hartenfeller.dev/blog/dblinte...

hartenfeller.devLetting Coding Agents Lint Their Own PL/SQL with dbLinterCoding agents write plenty of PL/SQL, but they need a feedback loop to write it well. Here's how to hand dbLinter to Coding Agents and teach it to check its own work.

My local DB (uc-local-apex-dev) was running full. Improved the local-26ai.sh shrink-space script by: - removing old APEX installations - Reclaiming space from APEX internal BLOBs - Reclaiming space from audit log - Data file resizing In total reclaimed 6 GB πŸ‘. #orclAPEX

Submitted 3 abstracts for DOAG K+A in November in Nuremberg. Fingers crossed! Hope to see many people in the #orclAPEX community so you should submit some too or at least come :) @DOAGeV #DOAG

Looking to generate #orclAPEX apps with APEXlang? You should join our webinar tomorrow! We will showcase an approach that save over 50% of $/tokens/time and thus is smarter as LLMs fatigue quickly. And the best part: you will be able to do the exact same thing at home. (links in comment)
