Q: who is Jon Connington and what is The Golden Company doing at the end of Dance?

Hashara is Canon@hashara.bsky.social

One of my oldest friends is getting into ASOIAF and asking me questions. I’m far from an expert, but I’ve agreed to be his halfmaester. Gonna post his Qs and my As here to try and juice some ASOIAF conversation. Jump in and tell me what I’m getting wrong and especially spill the tinfoil tea.

So Aegon* and Golden Company landed in the Stormlands and conquered a bunch of small castles and keeps and stuff. But it was a stormy sail over so they’re kinda disorganized

We give Aegon an asterisk because there’s significant hypothesis that he’s not who he thinks he is. People think that Illyrio and Varys might be secret Blackfyres, and that Aegon might actually just be a Bkackfyre raised to think he’s a Targ

So what happened was JonCon and Aegon* met up with golden company. The original plan was to meet up with Dany, but Tyrion convinced Aegon* that he had nothing to offer Dany, and he needed to do something big to be treated as equals.

Jon Connington = Old Griff JonCon was one of Rhaegar’s best friends, was briefly hand of the king under Mad King. He was a mid-major lord of the Stormlands, similar to Dondarrions

George RR Martin has given me hundreds of hours of entertainment. There have been times in my life where obsessing about his worlds prevented me from obsessing and spiraling about my own. He owes us nothing. If he doesn’t write another word, I owe him a profound debt.

I loved the not very subtle jab that knights and sex workers are both just doing what rich lords will pay them to do. Dunk and Egg could be a remarkable vehicle for class consciousness in Westeros and the real world, if the show runners don’t chicken out.

The Leftovers, no question

Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show: What's the *best* ending to a show you've ever seen? Quote/reply etc

I’m trying to figure out how to enjoy CK3AGOT. I’ve tried a kind of general conquer the world game starting as the Mallisters, but it got boring having my maesters rinse and repeat getting me claims on my neighbors. I tried a Roberts Rebellion game as Ned, but Robert died in the first five mins

What would have happened if Lyanna survived childbirth? If Ned had come a week later and found a healthy Lyanna nursing a royal baby? (Assuming the ToJ story we’ve been told is broadly correct)(I’m skeptical)(but I’m a crackpot)

It’s hard to know, but I think Ned’s personal rebellion was about personal vengeance against Aerys and how the Mad King violated the social contract, less a full revolt against all Targaryens.

Lyanna probably prevents the fight with the KG, they can at least start to talk it out. Robert’s murderous rage against “dragonspawn” is well known. It’s gonna put Ned in a really tough position. Loyalty to Robert Vs Family and traditional succession

Every where I look people are calling Carol from Pluribus “unlikeable” - I get we are supposed to think that from the pilot, but I think she’s behaving just fine given the circumstances

My most idiosyncratic political opinion is that tennis courts at parks are racist and classist.

His whole story is about finding meaning after disability. The story doesn’t hold back on the hard truths, it’s honest: yes it sucks, yes it’s hard, life isn’t going to be what you thought it was and you can’t do what others can do and what you wanted. But there is still so much you can do.

Now that the marketing push is over for Dunk and Egg show, GRRM can focus in on the best way to announce WINDS later this year

I love when student journalists break a crazy story, especially about their own school. This one is extraordinarily macabre. www.uscannenbergmedia.com/2025/10/01/u...

I don’t feel like i understand the relationship between Essos and Westeros. Essos is way more populated, richer, and seems to have a more mercantilist/early renaissance economy than Westeros… But there’s also Dothraki khalesars ravaging cities?

Yall ever stare at a map of Cretaceous North America and think it would be an awesome fantasy DnD world?

Sarah Taber@sarahtaber.bsky.social

Farm fact: the South is famous for clayey red soil, but a lot of it is actually... sand. Like beach sand. See the yellow on the map here. Why? It IS beach sand. That's where the shoreline was during the Cretaceous.

But watch out. That light blue inland waterway would be super warm water. Warm water = gigantic scary sea reptiles like mosasaurus. (This is true) It’s a short voyage but a dangerous one.

The Elves probably live in that northern peninsula, connected to the main continent but trying not to be. There’s three or four human countries on that main continent. Kinda like Middle Earth.

Gods I’ve been doing it for the last 50 minutes. The continent that’s basically just the Rockies, Sierras, and Cascades would be where the dwarves live. Mountain dwarves in the mountains (obv) and hill dwarves in the valleys. They’d supply nearly all the precious metals and iron for the world

Pretty sure Obie’s talking about the day Winds drops later this year. You can buy me a ginger ale at the next IAFC or whatever thing happens where I will be taking infinite victory laps.

Obie@obienator.bsky.social

Guys the day it happens I will be buying each of my moots a beverage of their choice. Tell me what it'll be, I am making a list.

Sometimes, in my darkest days, think to myself maybe Ashara was just a weird red herring from early in ASOIAF to throw us off the scent of R+L=J, or one of GRRMs early series false starts (like Tyrion doing cartwheels at Winterfell, or Theon and Robb being bff’s, but not until Clash)

BUT THEN I remember she comes out of nowhere to be featured in KotLT stories in Storm, and Barristan is still day dreaming about her haunted violet eyes in Dance. GRRM had chances to let her fade into the mists of time and refused. ASHARA DAYNE IS THE SONG OF ICE AND FIRE

Here’s how it would go: Ned: free my sister you fucking cowards! Dayne: we aren’t keeping her hostage, we’re keeping her safe! From you! Ned: what? Arthur: what?

Hashara is Canon@hashara.bsky.social

ASIOAF characters who would kill their own siblings and nephews: - Euron Greyjoy - Ramsey Bolton (not even Roose!) - Gregor Clegane - one of those Vale Declarant guys I forget which - that’s it? DEFINITELY NOT NED STARK. and Arthur Dayne would know that.
