I am extremely concerned about people’s kindness and good nature being weaponised and taken advantage of. This can take the form of everyday, banal bullying or something more systematic and sinister.

Stand up for what you believe in, of course. But where’s the power? Who’s gaining power and what are they doing with it? Where’s the kindness and empathy? Is it for everyone, or only those on “your side”? Some people say “follow the money”. I say “follow the power”.

I am becoming more and more convinced that the best way to deal with the challenges of 2026 and beyond is with a sort of relentless, unflinching kindness and optimism.

🚨 PSA to social media users (myself included) 🚨: Be more like Hayley. It would be massively healthier for all of us. It really would. Thank you for your attention on this matter.

A matter-of-fact, unflappable cheerfulness that has something very British about it, I think, but that anyone is capable of. It’s not about denying the painful and scary realities. It’s about refusing to let them defeat us.

I worry sometimes that a lot of people who are understandably upset about the state of the world don’t process their emotions about it. They don’t move through the stages of grief. They’re stuck.

The problems of the world are too important to excuse us marinating in our feelings. This tendency risks making it all about us. If we’re serious about helping others we need to accept our feelings and process them so we can then turn our attention outwards.

I was a temp receptionist for a building where literally all I had to do was press a button to let people in and out. Despite my fancy uni degree I failed at this: was let go after 2 days.
