I like to think I am a thoughtful, kind, pragmatic fellow on my best days. On my worst days, I'm just another jerk. Wishing you a blessed day.

Oh yay! Now we have a corrupt left-wing authoritarian refusing to accept an election result. Just what the world needs more of: insane BS election conspiracy theories. 🙄🙄

Colombian President Gustavo Petro says he does not recognize the results of the Colombian election, accusing Israel of compromising Colombia's election software

I'm a full throated Impeach the MFer, but I'm very glad he wasn't shot or harmed. First, assassination is wrong full stop. Second, anyone thinking that Trump being killed would be good for the country is not living in reality. This country is divided enough as it is. God forbid we up that 10x.

You have to be a special kind of stupid to argue that Trump is bad because he said he was lowering drug prices 600% but he only lowered them 60%. If that were true, people wouldn't care that his math is bad. But his drug cost cuts are very limited and average savings for households are minimal.

Not trying to criticize this particular post, because it's the kind of post that gets engagement. This is critic of all of us collectively as Trump critics. Focus on what matters, not on the sweet dopamine hit that you get because he says something very stupid.

The point is to embarrass Vance (and Trump by proxy) and cost the US a ton in security costs. It might be a signal that Iran doesn't want to negotiate right now, thinking they are in a position of strength. But it's hard to say, because they are legitimately broke and need sanctions relief.

I know the Iranians don’t have a lot of good options to choose from and some of this is probably posturing. But I personally wouldn’t trust the word of JD “I believe Donald Trump is Hitler lol/jk” Vance.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again. #Pinks #ProudBlue

This is just insane. It’s only a matter of time before DHS kills another innocent person here. (clip via MPR and @davidjbier.bsky.social on X)

"MPR News has learned that the police chief in the small southern Minnesota city of St. Peter intervened Thursday afternoon to prevent federal immigration agents from arresting a local resident" who had been observing federal agents. www.mprnews.org/story/2026/0...

Abolishing ICE is a great goal, but Democrats need to start this week by returning ICE's budgets to 2024 levels, negating the 9x increase from the BBB. But they should offer a bipartisan compromise by reducing the 2024 budget 10% to account for Trump's marvelous job at lowering prices. 😂

People are starting to realize that American democracy really is under threat, and that it’s not just some hysterical exaggeration.

How much more in your face can it be? "Why are you asking me for my paperwork?" "Because of your accent." "You have an accent too." "Where were you born sir?" "Where were you born at?" "Put your hands behind your back."

I'm no political expert, but it seems to me to be political malpractice to not turn "Quiet, piggy" back on Trump. It succinctly makes the point that Trump is an unserious President who only looks out for himself and should not be taken seriously. Quiet Piggy should be the left's Let's Go Brandon.

Thesis: The central driving factor of American politics in the past decade has been the fact that it has never been easier to stay ahead in America, but it's never been harder to get ahead in America. The richer are getting richer by the minute while everyone else is drowning in debt and despair.

Friends, my heart is heavy today. Tomorrow is the 24th anniversary of 9/11. The sight of people leaping to their death to avoid burning to death is seared in my brain. The first responders who rushed into the towers over and over again, often to not come out the last time.

Unlike 24 years ago, we do not face a foreign attacker. We are attacking ourselves from within. We are a nation that is increasingly comfortable with seeing other people in America as less than fully human. As deserving of violence. As enemies. And it breaks my heart. How do we change this?

I don't have any answers. But I know that I don't want to be an agent of anger and resentment. I want to be a channel of peace. A voice of hope. A creator of unity. Let's strive to lead by example to create the change we wish to see. Too many have sacrificed too much for us to give up on America.

Friends, my heart is heavy today. Tomorrow is the 24th anniversary of 9/11. The sight of people leaping to their death to avoid burning to death is seared in my brain. The first responders who rushed into the towers over and over again, often to not come out the last time.

The volunteers who spent weeks and months digging through the rubble. On that day we were attacked from outside and America was forever changed. Today, we had a horrific political assassination followed by another school shooting. The rhetoric afterward was truly awful and dehumanizing.

The same reason I detest the pardoning of January 6 protestors, the same reason I oppose our horrific immigration policy, the same reason I think the participants in Epstein's crimes should face a reckoning is why I am horrified by the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Wrong is always wrong.

I think of the police officers beaten on January 6, the families separated by ICE agents, the victims of Epstein's sexual predation. And I think of the wife and children of Charlie Kirk. All experiencing the pain of unjustified violence or abuse. Yes, I grieve for Kirk's family deep in my soul.

I don't think Kirk's views were healthy or helpful to society. But so what? He was a human being, with a family and a long life ahead of him. Violence and abuse are always wrong, they are evils that cause so much pain to people and destroy the souls of those who conduct or condone it.

There's plenty to criticize about Charlie Kirk's views and his impact in society, but this is not the time. Violent attacks on people are clearly wrong and right now my only thought about Kirk is that he recovers fully. It's not okay to shoot people you find odious. Period.

Unpopular take: while Trump has done numerous things that deserve impeachment and I'm not sure he really knows what he is doing vis-a-vis Russia's invasion of Ukraine, he may manage to bluster his way into a negotiated peace that both sides can agree with.

Yes, I am concerned about his reference to Putin and his willingness to cede Ukrainian territory. He could still screw this up in a myriad of ways. But in his own bumbling way, he's gotten a ball rolling that could lead to an end of the war. And yes, he should still be impeached.

In the month since Trump took office, monthly inflation is higher than it's been in the last year-and-a-half, real wages have gone down slightly, employment is flat, and the price of gas & eggs has gone up. How long until they woodchipper the Bureau of Labor Statistics & replace them with toadies?

Posted April 17. Trump's autocratic instincts are predictable.

Elizabeth Spiers@espiers.bsky.social

My prediction is that in that scenario, he blames the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which puts out employment data. Calls them corrupt, run by Democrats, out to get him. Fires people there, insists their numbers cannot be trusted, White House puts out its own fictitious data to make Trump look good
