It's finally fixed! I opened cli/cli#3718 a while back because terminal-detected hyperlinks spanning multiple lines were truncated. Took pushing a fix to glamour then to cli/go-gh then to cli/cli but it's finally merged. Terminal junkies rejoice! #GitHubCLI 2.103.0 is out now with this fix.

Took a weekday trip to the Enchantments avoiding the horde, though still many people—some of whom weren’t at all prepared for inclement conditions. It was an icy ascent up Aasgard Pass and we were helping each other up an icy scramble. I had micro spikes so it wasn’t too bad. Many did not.

Narrowly escaped some falling rock—I yelled “rock!”, of course—and hightailed it away from the rock wall. We made it down okay and finished the night at München Haus. Chili really hit the spot after a chili day.

The larches hadn’t dropped too many needles so we got some amazing views. Even were the first to congratulate a couple who got engaged in the Core and took some pics for them.

We decided not to chance finding a ride back to the car—shuttle was fully booked—and set an earlier turnaround time for the top of Aasgard. Barely caught up with a solo hiker and offered to go down with her to make sure everyone made it down okay. I set a new path avoiding that icy scramble down.

Enjoyed a short 34mi ride today around the north end of Lake Washington with a detour around Green Lake. Beautiful weather for it. 🚴‍♂️

And now 1.0 is out! Come get it! #CosmosDB

Kevin Pilch@pilchie.dev

Our 1.0-beta.1 release of the Rust SDK for Azure Cosmos DB is out. We're considering this a release candidate for a 1.0 release coming soon - give it a spin and let us know if you run into any issues. #CosmosDB crates.io/crates/azure...

Excellent season wrapping up in a heart-warming season finale. #TedLasso But how dare “Zelda” don Princess Donut! She’d be furious. #DCC

It was actually a commercial for nightlights or something? I was maybe 5 or 6 and our lazy day care lady just let us watch TV. It showed a realistic monster under the bed of some kid. Never got over the horror I felt.

In honor of scary media month: what is the first piece of media you remember truly frightening you as a child?

Today our first little bird leaves the nest for college. 🥲 She was organizing some of the stuff into the living room and we made sure to pack her favorite chew toys including her Kong.

Finally upgraded to #UniFi zones and migrated—mostly deleting rules that are now built-in—my firewall rules. Pretty slick. Then finally moved the rest of my IoT devices to the IoT VLAN & zone. I’d been it putting off because SmartThings/Z-wave made it such a pain.

#UniFi travel router arrived! 😍 Also ordered another puck. Living room/kitchen doesn’t have great coverage. Too much solid interference from the puck down the hallway that provides coverage for the bedrooms. Should’ve installed it when that ceiling was open for the remodel. Harder install now. 😔

Replaced my older #UniFi nanoHD (WiFi 5) with the U6+ (WiFi 6). The mounting plate was the same so it was a quick swap and adoption. New scan of the upstairs has me thinking I may not need to install the nanoHD in the living room. Might try out the AP upgrade by itself for a while.

It’s not Italy 😔, but Snohomish County cycling has its charms. Arlington had an art walk I spent some time in while enjoying my almond milk mocha. ⛽️

My #Apple iDevices have all been stuck indexing since Monday. My wife's too. Every article explains how it may take a while. I get it. I've written indexers for and used Windows Search in most of its incarnations. But for days? Seems someone didn't write a robust indexer. Reported with logs. 😔

Connecting to my iPhone over Console on my MacBook—the only device that seems to have finished—shows that watchdog keeps killing some child searchd process for being unresponsive. But it seems that indexer just picks up where it left off. Bad.

Given the information I collected, I was abler to get a tier 2 call. Bad news: no fix. Good news: #Apple is aware of it and working on a fix. Honestly, as a long-time veteran of software deployment, while I was hoping for a fix or work around, I mainly wanted to make sure they knew about it.

Mainly a post to show others: if your indexing has been stuck at the same percentage for days, you're not alone. I've tried rebooting, toggled off a few apps in Siri or Spotlight settings to hopefully get the indexer to refresh, and toggled Siri off briefly per an older suggestion to no avail.

My feature to verify third-party taps in #Homebrew 🍺 shipped a few days ago in 7.0.0. Unfortunately, there was a bug because my test tap was already trusted, but someone already fixed it in 7.0.2. 🙏 brew tap heaths/tap brew install akv brew verify akv

Do I want the 887.2 MB upgrade to iOS 26.7 or the 14.03 GB upgrade to iOS 26.7? 🤔 Tempted to try the second option to #iOS27 anyway but apprehensive.

+1 again for Matter. When I had to add more devices I decided to upgrade the others to a standard (yes, I know xkcd 927) and not get locked in. In fact, the ST Hub by that time supported Matter too but HomeKit provides a better experience. ST always felt clunky.

But now I’m starting to think about NVR. Not only is my wife not impressed with the new, clean network topo, but rolls her eyes at the mention of buying cameras including a G6 that records over Teleport to home storage when we travel.

Matter with a HomePod is much simpler. After moving to the IoT network it just took about 30s for the hub to update devices info. Didn’t have to remove and re-add devices like I had to for SmartThings (pre-Matter, TBF).

Probably out of my price range, but that translucent glass effect when opening the #iPhoneDuo is pretty cool! Nice touch, Apple!

Packing in the Seattle area for this: “Let’s see what the weather will be like in the other side of the continent! “Oh. Just like Seattle. 😔” 🌧️🌧️🌧️ Still, it’ll be fun, I’ll get to meet some people from the RCN IRL, and it will be nice to visit Montreal. Not like I’m not acclimated to rain.

Or not. American Airlines delayed the flight 11+ hours with a new connection to Montreal for a total of 21+ hours. I’ll miss most of the conference if I can’t book another airline. 🤬

I could either drive down to Portland—about a 3.5 hour drive—after being awake for the last 20 hours and a 2,200’ bike climb this morning, take now-overpriced flights that got me there after midnight Wednesday, or keep the new flight that got me there when the conference was half over. Canceled. 😡

I love Dune—my favorite being the two Syfy miniseries many years back. It was closer to the source material than the 1984 version. The newer versions are good, but way off the mark. Brian Tyler composed Children of Dune, and it's one of my favorite soundtracks after almost any John Williams.

I've played percussion almost my entire life. Playing timpani, getting accepted into All State Orchestra in high school, and playing with a community symphony for a season have been highlights for me. That's why I love the Children of Dune soundtrack: the timpani—and the chimes—are moving.

So imagine my surprise when Apple TV started playing a trailer for Master and Commander and I heard the Children of Dune soundtrack. I'd recognize it anywhere; but, according to IMDb, Brian Tyler had nothing to do with Master and Commander. WTF?

That episode of #Lanterns was an emotional rollercoaster! I'm not much of a DC fan, but I'm loving this series. Great casting and writing!

@theneedling.com thought they could ruin my birthday, but my “baby” sis came through with the best belated gift: a headband for cycling on hot days. Suck it, Needling! j/k love you folks.

My little sister sent me a belated birthday card that struck a nerve. I’ve been lambasting this for years and not just as I got older. Browsers support a standard date picker, number validation before that, and simple JavaScript for free-form numbers before that! Get with the times, all web sites!

Don’t shop at Walmart often where we live, but frequented one by our Vrbo in Puerto Rico this past week. First time we went I kept repositioning my phone till my wife noticed and said they don’t do that here. Every time we went I kept forgetting briefly. Nice they’re finally entering the late 2010s.
