How Some Christianities Became anti-Jewish
18 May 26, Univ. of Cambridge
Time, place TBD
By the 2nd century some Christianities in Rome evinced a principled opposition to Judaism, although housed within the 2nd temple a scant century before. Why the shift?

For three months of Spotify Premium I could just buy a brand new MP3 player with 128 GB and zero ads ever, and have some left over for more CDs that no algorithm will ever hide from me, and the MP3 player will also never insert random Olivia Dean songs into my baroque playlist or sell me insurance.
Excited about the AI-BRIDGES Symposium on Open Data on 28-29 May. I will be a very big whale by then, so I am relieved in this instance for zoom option (tho I'll be sad to miss a London excuse!) www.sas.ac.uk/about-us/ins... (Day 1: training, Day 2: symposium; free attendance in person/online btw)
It is striking that teaching at the speed of wordy PowerPoints becomes too much information for learning and discourages students taking notes by hand. In high school my teachers used to write on chalkboards. We'd write as they wrote in front of us, same speed. But PowerPoints race ahead faster.
Emailing today with a past president (long ago) and loyal member of BIAJS in modern Jewish film history, I am struck by how special our association is and how important cross-disciplinary ties are for a thriving Jewish studies in the UK. BIAJS conferences make such great memories.

Whatever you do this weekend, please include reading an actual book somewhere in there. Books make great fashion statements, too. If you carry a book around instead of a phone people are bound to remember they should probably get back into reading.

Join us on 2 March at Birkbeck to hear Michael Berkowitz on the elusive story of Jewish Hollywood’s role in World War II. Book here: bisa.bbk.ac.uk/event/hollyw...
Reading Of Human Bondage by W. Somerset Maugham and it is truly a wonderful read. I'm really enjoying it. In writing a scene, Maugham has such perfect timing in when to add a sentence about an internal feeling or observation that cuts right to the heart of human experience. With two little children
sometimes all I can manage is five minutes with a book (apart from after bedtimes when I can sit for longer in free time) but even in five minutes I feel like my soul is nourished culturally & mentally. I don't know what other parents call this? I call it micro-reading. Feels 10x better than phone.
1. This vandalism (left pic) is what Nazis did to Jewish businesses (right pic).
2. This story hasn't been covered by any major newspaper other than the JC and the Mail (though it's still early).
3. Don't know why CAS isn't also cross-posting on bsky (I found their post on X)? @antisemitism.org
