How it's going so far: I spent a good thirty seconds looking for something that was directly in front of me (a strainer, if you're interested). I ground two batches of coffee - one fine, one coarse - for two separate uses: pour over and cold brew. And then just mixed them together, wtf.

I sent a document to the printer, which is in another room. The sound it made when it started up made me panic that someone was trying to break in. Note that I have printed probably thousands of documents on this printer and know what it sounds like.

Went to the Bronx for an opening, came back and fixed myself a late dinner: open-face egg salad and cucumber sandwich with Cajun seasoning. No regrets. Well, maybe one - I probably should’ve gotten Mexican in the Bronx, but next time. Bonus pic from the opening, at Bronx Documentary Center. 🍽️🌱🥚🥒

Getting rid of some stuff that needs to be gotten rid of, like a gigantic cucumber from my garden and an overgrowth of mint from my other garden. Also leftover gnudi, leftover tomato sauce with eggplant, and some not leftover yellow squash to make everything feel new. #cookingsky #homecooking 🍽️🌱

A Rice Cooker Tragedy I have been using a rice cooker for decades. Because it’s easier. For most people. 🙃 Today I decided to dump both rice and water directly on top of the heating element, instead of into the bowl. I was at least smart enough to not then turn it on. #homecooking #cookingsky 🍽️🎑

I cleaned everything out, rinsed the rice, put it in a pot with water and set it over the heat. Then I looked up how to make rice in a pot. Wouldn’t you know, you’re supposed to boil the water first and THEN put the rice in. (Again, it’s been decades.) The rice came out alright. A little mushy.

But the rice cooker is ruined. 😞 No longer safe to use, since it’s impossible (or too hard for it to be worth it, anyway) to get all the rice out from around the heating unit. So now it’s a fire hazard. Twenty years of service! I’m sorry, rice cooker.
