Finally back in the darkroom, dialing in some test prints. 5x7 paper is about $1.25 a sheet but still big enough to do a proper assessment for an 8x10 print (I hate "test strips") and way cheaper than the ~$3/sheet that 8x10 costs.

I vastly prefer split filter printing, but that requires a lot more dialing in vs using a single contrast grade. Basically, I expose the paper first with the 0 filter to set the highlight detail where I want it, then I use a 5 filter to crisp up the blacks.

I tried it a few different ways, you can see my settings on the whiteboard, but it's hard to fully assess a wet print, so now I'm going to let them dry and then decide which looks best, or if I need to try again. Then I can fire off a run of final prints at 8x10, so look for that post tomorrow!

The washing machine that was left behind by the previous owner was leaky and shitty and then it died, so we bit the bullet and got a big ol' combo washer/dryer, and fuck what a quality of life upgrade for someone with ADHD, highly recommend

obviously many more important takeaways from the French approach to protest, but much respect to the absolute varsity level Whimsy of throwing a whole ass piano at the cops

Man the ADHD is kicking my ass but I told myself on Thursday that I was taking the weekend off of work anyway. Just feels like there's so much to do and every five minutes something else pops into my head. Tomorrow I'm gonna pop an Adderall, but for now I think a Lego kit and an audiobook

Been playing through Harold Halibut and uh, it's really not living up to the hype. Clunky, weirdly paced, and everyone is mean to Harold for no reason, which just isn't my sense of humor, I find it incredibly frustrating. Halfway through now and it's short enough I'll finish it, but dang

Spent a few hours today cleaning the darkroom and organizing prints. Tomorrow I'll digitize a bunch and then get back into printing more regularly I hope.

Decided on a whim to whip up some fresh salsa: local tomatoes, a couple shallots, fresh oregano, thyme, cilantro, garlic, and lime, some black garlic I had lying around, a couple chipotles in adobo, a dried ancho, and some freshly toasted cumin and smoked black pepper. Gonna be even better tomorrow

Finally made some progress on updating my portfolio, hopefully I'll finish Phase 1 this week and then I can get cheap 4x6s printed of everything so I can work on sequencing for Phase 2. Haven't done this since 2019 whoooops
