Help me understand. Brent crude went way up. So of course in order to stay solvent, oil companies raised gas prices for the consumer. Yet they end up with a profit of 45 billion in the second quarter of this year. That’s weird.

The 6 largest oil companies will collectively rake in $45B in profits in the second quarter of 2026 — nearly double what they made in the first quarter. Meanwhile, Canada, France, and Spain are battling record-breaking wildfires spurred by the climate crisis. Big Oil profits while the world burns.

What if hostile foreign governments were able to control social network algorithms in the United States, suppressing information vital to our survival as a democracy? That would be weird.

E. Jean Carroll spent nearly a decade in court fighting one of the most powerful men in the world. She fought with tenacity and grace — and she won. She is one of my personal heroes. We all owe her a debt of gratitude.

I wouldn't be surprised if Elaine Chao has connections with the PRC and had to scoot before they were revealed. I always wondered why an attractive woman married out of her species. Now I know.

I was rereading the Declaration, and this struck me: "mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed".

Pete Kegsbreath: "the sound of ingrates... of people who are so blinded by ideology they can't see law and order, and common sense in front of them." Sure we can, drunko. We can also see fascism, greed and stupidity. I won't point any fingers.

Huge, huge turnout for Trump's Great American Fair on the Mall. (I count 8 spectators, about a third as many people as are on the stage performing). Wow. bsky.app/profile/dave...

The 11 a.m. Tuesday time slot is at the Great American State Fair is apparently not the most fruitful, as there are more musicians in the band than spectators. (The band, consisting of young musicians, including a heluva brass section, was quite good.)

I wish I could send groups of roving military men with weapons and angry stares to the backyards of maga voters very much. A year in and it feels like almost no one gets it.
