Added a new tool to the mix (a 9’6” NRS mini) and got into some browns on a gorgeous October Saturday. #flyfishing #trout #priestriver #Idaho #raft

It’s hard to believe that the summer boating season has come to an end up in our neck of the woods. This old gal, 80 years young, will find a fresh exterior come spring. #woodboat #chriscraft #lakelife #Idaho #flyfish

Ah, yes! That simple little soup is a taste of autumn. Thank you for the nod, Jason. And forgive me if I’m I’m mistaken, but I believe I may have spotted a shout out to you in a somewhat recent Water Time newsletter? #flyfishing #autumn #mushroom #soup

In stealing a couple of hours up the lake before a busy holiday weekend, it’s a delight to quietly shake hands with a few locals. #Idaho #flyfishing #trout #cutthroat

Got some flying in this week that included some scouting. And some #flyfishing. This place never disappoints this time of year. #idaho #cutthroat #floatplane #fishing #trout

Due to the low snowpack, and quickly warming temps (with a slight reprieve this week), our season’s fly fishing on the Priest River will likely come to a close next week or so. Thank goodness for the cooler systems that surround us.

Returned from Italy and was on the water within hours. Bonus: solved a high-country shuttle issue for those less civilized mountainside launches. Yes, it is nice to be home. #flyfishing #cutthroat #trout #rivers #nrsrafts #fordtrucks #Idaho

Say, should any of you have dreamed of fishing the famed salmonfly hatch on the Deschutes, my friends at Water Time just had two spots open. Salmonflies started hatching and big rainbows will be looking up. It’s a trip of a lifetime at a great rate. May 14-16 Email: rob@watertimeoutfitters.com

The fishing has come into full season since the family has been in southern Italy these past few weeks. Even as beautiful as it was there, it’s its wonderful to be back. And the returning pursuit was never far from my mind. Piscatorially speaking, I mean.

Such an important doc. Historical reference, no shortage of reverence, and a lot of fun. A West Coast time capsule.

Rivers of the Lost Coast is a documentary chronicling fly fishing for wild salmon and steelhead in Northern California in the 1900's. Read more: https://www.activenorcal.com/rivers-of-a-lost-coast-is-a-must-watch-documentary-for-norcal-fishermen/

Sketches in patience. Or what white collar clients call “bio breaks” (the third in two hours) while fish rise during a short and anxious window around the boat. #flyfishing #trout #idaho #guide

The little river in my back yard is slowly awakening. Floated a four-mile stretch with my friend Travis, and the rainbows seem to be game. #idaho #flyfishing #trout

If you haven’t already, I’d highly recommend Steve Duda’s “River Songs, Moments of Wild Wonder in Fly Fishing.” And Matthew DeLorme’s woodcut illustrations are outstanding. Published by Mountaineers Books.

I’ve mentioned this in past tributes to The Curtis Creek Manifesto but I still find Sherry’s little tome the best introduction to fly fishing the industry has ever produced. It was my text for an instruction series, “Getting Your Feet Wet”, which bought together friends in the creative industries.

Another dubious sign (an omen?) for the current state of Simms fly fishing and trout fishing in Montana. As Taylor Sheridan’s ridiculously shallow “The Madison” depicts the deep sorrows of big money co-opting yet another of earth’s greatest resources.
